Ways for Families or Anyone to Save Money on Fees

Jane Vee
It's important to everyone to save money. Families have a harder time when it comes to saving money just because there is more than one person. Here are a few ideas to save money on fees.

If you are a parent a lot of your money goes to daycare or after school care. Although this is a necessary evil, you can save money on daycare and after school fees by being on time or having someone pick your children up for you by the designated time. Most daycares and after school programs cost $10 or more if the child is not picked up on time. Late fees can cost as much as $50 a week.

Babysitters may be less expensive than school daycares or after school care. If you will only be a couple hours, you might even consider hiring the teenager down the street to watch the kids until you get home. The other alternative is letting your child over eight years old in Florida be a latch key kid without any supervision.

Library fees can get astronomical if you forget to return a book, movie, or DVD. Save your money by returning items early or on time. Usually, people are late with their library rentals because they forget exactly which day the items are due. Make a calendar to remind you of important dates. Include library returns on the calendar. Cell phones or computers can be set to remind you of these dates if a wall calendar will not help.

Bank fees and debit card fees add up the quickest. People use the most convenient ATM even if that means they will be charged a dollar for the use. If you have your kids with you it is easiest just to use the ATM wherever you are instead of dragging the kids to the bank. Saving the dollar fee could save you over a hundred dollars a year. Just with ATM savings, you could save the money towards a college education for your child.

Balancing your check book and knowing what money is in the bank can save you money on overdraft fees. Instead of checking your balance at the ATM, before you leave home call the bank and get a balance. Most banks have an automated feature that will be as quick if not quicker than an ATM and you will not have to stand in line with the kids.

Credit card fees seem to be rising for everything. Most credit cards are now charging annual fees. Families have enough bills without having to pay for credit cards. If you can do without the credit cards, then getting rid of the ones that have fees is an excellent way to save money. Check with the credit card companies and find a card without annual fees. Make sure you will be able to pay the bill on time so late fees and interest are not accrued. Most credit cards compound interest. If you can pay your bill off, you can save money on the interest.

Extracurricular activities for the kids have fees. A great way to save on extracurricular activities is to limit the number of activities the child or children are allowed to participate in. If the child will not have time to meet all the demands of the group, save your money on the activity and the aggravation of trying to get everyone everywhere.

Fees are usually explained or disclosed before you agree to a contract. Look for hidden fees and question anything you do not understand. By being aware of contracts you can save yourself and your family money on fees.

Saving money on fees helps you and your family save money. That will mean more money in your pockets to do the things you want to do. Enjoy the extra money!

Excellent article. I've been getting hit right and left with unauthorized fees on utilities and such. It's criminal, but the only way to stop them is with a class action suit, probably. One way to eliminate fees is get rid of the service! I got rid of my television service and my land line. Life is better without TV! And, thanks to Magic Jack I only need my cell phone and as long as that company doesn't abuse my trust, we'll keep doing business.

I wonder how u go into the zoo. Did you dig your way into the zoo or jump the fence? Both are equally good ways to save on fees!
