Ways to Gain Happiness

Jamie Lloyd
The ideal, fairytale life is one that is bright and sunny. The whole family is happy and joyful; there are never illnesses or anger. The ideal life also contains untainted happiness in everyone's professional lives, with no layoffs or demotions. Everyone is successful at what they do, not matter what it is. Unfortunately, not everyone has the ideal life and we are all vulnerable to varying emotions, external stresses, and illnesses. There is no one person on the entire planet that is perfect. That said, it is possible to attain a higher level of happiness in your life.

It sounds a lot more difficult than it actually is. What you have to understand is that it is important to your health that you have some level of happiness in your life. It is also important to have friends or family that you can turn to when things just aren't going right for you. Having a support network available, even if you don't always need them, can provide you with some comfort and happiness.

You also need to have the idea set in your head that you actually are a happy, positive person. If you tell yourself repeatedly that you are happy, you will have a more positive outlook. This allows you to handle negative experiences and feelings with more optimism than if you were a glass is half empty type of person.

Try to find better time management techniques. You need to understand that time management does not always mean scheduling things well throughout your day. It can also mean planning goals to reach and creating many to-do lists. When you feel less stressed and less like a worn out rubber band, you will find that happiness comes a whole lot easier.

Limit how much exposure that you have to the news. It is important to stay updated on the events that are taking place around you and within the nation, but too much news can be depressing. This is especially true when the majority of news information is negative and violent.

Express your emotions on a regular basis. If you find this task especially difficult try finding a creative outlet that you can use to express your emotions without actually vocalizing them. You can try sketching or painting. If physical art is not to your liking, you can try music. Join a choir or chorus group. If all else fails, make time for your own little jam sessions with your CD player and your favorite CDs. You may feel more comfortable with this method since it does not draw a tremendous amount of attention to you.
