Ways You Can Help Children in Need

Children in need of help unfortunately tends to be on the increase. There are plenty of ways you can help these children even if becoming a foster or adoptive parent is something you feel you can't do at this time.

Most CPS offices have what is called the Rainbow Room. This is where they keep stock of diapers, wipes, car seats and clothing for children who have been removed from their home. Most children upon removal from their home have nothing but the clothes on their backs. They are not allowed to take their own toys are clothing. You can donate items to Rainbow Room.

Along the same lines as the Rainbow Room you can hold a toy or clothing drive. This would be a great project for a club, sorority or church. It is a great way to get others involved. Most people are willing, and in fact, want to help just don't know how.

Donate, donate, donate! Instead of having a yard or garage sale give the appropriate items you have to the Rainbow Room!

Of course monetary donations are always needed and greatly appreciated. It seems now days funding is being either greatly reduced or taken away all together so any financial assistance you can offer is wonderful.

Become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). This is where you become the voice for a child who does not have one. You will be asked to speak for the child in court and advocate what is in the best interest of them. You will be there to listen and hear what the child wants and needs. This is a great way to show you care and to help a child. Once you decide you want to become a CASA volunteer you will be provided special classes and training. Contact your local CPS office for more information on becoming a CASA volunteer.

Speaking of volunteering, how about volunteering your time and services to a Children's Home? Not only will you be a blessing to these children I promise you will receive a blessing too!

Drive! There is a lot of driving involved with foster parenting. Check with your local CPS office and see if there is a need in this area. You can offer to drive children to their parental visits, medical and dental appointments.

Donate space! Your local church or business can donate space to be used for PRIDE (Parent Resource Information Development Education) classes, Parenting Classes and for Informational Meetings on how to become a foster/adopt parent.

As you can see, there are a lot of ways you can show support, encourage, and help children in need. A little love and care will go a long way. These children's lives and worlds have been ripped apart. Everything they know and love has been taken away. YOU can make a difference!
