Ways to Help Our Senior Citizen Parents at the Shopping Mall

Bernadette
There are various ways we might be able to help our senior citizen parents at the shopping mall. This article will discuss a few of them.

Getting to the Mall: Sometimes my senior citizen dad asks us to go to the shopping mall with him when we visit him. He usually drives us all to the mall, but we have driven him a few times.

Selecting Merchandise: Our senior parent might need our help to find whatever merchandise they need to purchase at the mall. If my dad is looking for clothing, we assist him in his search for a particular size or style of clothing, shoes, etc.

We may also be able to help our senior citizen parent decide on a certain outfit, for example, which one looks the best on them.

Our senior citizen parents might also appreciate it if we can help them decide on a non-apparel item. For example, we assisted my dad when he bought his cell phone. We were able to read the various descriptions of the cell phones on display for him and that helped him to make his choice easier.

Assisting in the Dressing/Fitting Room: My mother always needed help trying on various clothing items, so that was one reason why she liked it when we went clothing shopping together.

Visiting the Food Court: Sharing a meal or snack while shopping is a nice way to spend a bit of time while at the shopping mall. Taking a food break gives you the chance to sit and relax. My dad often treats us to a nice lunch when we go shopping with him.

Helping to Read the Mall's Directory: We can help our senior citizen parent read the mall directory to find a particular store, the restroom, the food court, etc.

Company: We enjoy going to the shopping mall with my dad when we visit him because we keep him company. One time, a few years ago, we went to a nice department store in the mall to look at the elaborate Christmas section. Afterwards, we browsed through the rest of the department store. It was a nice way to spend part of the day with him.

Checking if any Stores Have Coupon Savings: Before going to the shopping mall, you can ask your senior citizen parent what store/stores they would like to shop in at the mall. You can check the sales circulars for the store/stores or visit the website for the store/stores and see if any money-saving coupons are available. Some shopping malls offer money-saving coupons at the mall's customer service area.

Hope that you were able to get some ideas on the various ways to help your senior citizen parents at the shopping mall.
