Brownie Additions and Toppings

Plain brownies are good, but they can be even better with a few simple toppings and additions. What starts out as a one-bowl homemade or boxed dessert can turn into a gourmet treat unlike anything available in bakeries and stores. Consider these easy ways to improve plain brownies, and create something absolutely delectable.

Begin with a Good Recipe or Boxed Mix

When looking for easy ways to improve plain brownies begin with a good recipe or boxed mix. If the brownie is not good, no amount of candy, spreads or toppings will improve them. Find a tasty one-bowl recipe, or opt for a basic boxed mix. A plain mix generally sells for less than two dollars. Use the following additions and toppings and make them much more decadent.

Improve Plain Brownies with Peanut Butter and Mini Chips

Do you like peanut butter and chocolate chips? Improve plain brownies with ordinary smooth or crunchy peanut butter and miniature chips. Spread the peanut butter over the brownies shortly after they come out of the oven. Give the top a few minutes to completely solidify. The peanut butter will begin to melt. Top it with a generous amount of mini chips in chocolate or a flavor of your choice. Serve them after they completely cool. They will taste rich and incredibly delicious. The various textures are amazing.

Add Toasted Mini Marshmallows

Marshmallows that have been lightly browned are crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside. They are also very sweet and tasty. When seeking easy ways to improve plain brownies, top them as you would top a pan of candied sweet potatoes. Right before the brownies come out of the oven, top them with marshmallows. Keep a close watch on the marshmallows. They will expand and brown very quickly, and they can easily burn. Serve the brownies while the marshmallows are still slightly warm.

Improve Plain Batter with Caramel Sauce

Some gourmet brownie mixes come with rich thick caramel sauce. Save money and add it to plain boxed or homemade brownies to improve them. Just before placing the pan in the oven, pour stripes of thick caramel over the batter. Use a knife to create designs on the surface. Bake the brownies as usual, and allow them to cool before serving. A scoop of ice cream will also improve any of the aforementioned brownies in a sweet new way.
