Ways to Keep Lost: Bad Twin

For Lost fans, finding more clues about the show is a addiction that can never be satisfied. Luckily, fans looking for a fix can read the manuscript the survivors found on the beach: Bad Twin, by Gary Troup.

Troup was one of the passengers on Oceanic flight 815 and died in the pilot episode by being sucked in by a jet engine and causing it to explode. His manuscript was found later in the series and has been read by Hurley and partially by Sawyer.

The story centers around private detective Paul Artisan, who is tired of working on cases that really don't matter in the whole scheme of things. Petty insurance cases pay the bills, but aren't a challenge and certainly don't live up to his ambitions. His opportunity to work on a meaningful case shows up in the form of Clifford Widmore, heir to the wealthy Widmore family, who asks him to find his twin brother, Zander, the "bad twin." However, the more clues Artisan gets the more he wonders which twin is worse. As he unlocks more of the Widmore's history and gets closer to finding Zander, he encounters obstacles and occurrences that are more than consequence. Someone is trying to get him off the case, no matter what it takes.

His novel gives some interesting insight into the thematic elements of the show including how the island could be an earthly form of purgatory. Troup's name is itself an anagram for purgatory. There is also plenty of name dropping and other clues relating to the show and the Hanso Foundation. Readers looking for clues about the show will find Artisan's close friend Manny Weissman's philosophic lectures revealing about past, and possibly future, mores and ideas in Lost.

Bad Twin will keep readers intrigued with its well crafted prose, and compelling story line which takes readers through unforeseen plot twists and connections, including an excursion to Australia via Oceanic Airlines. Bad Twin is a must-read for Lost fans and for anyone who loves a good mystery.
