Ways Your Kid Can Help Charities

If you want your child to grow up caring for others, affirm to your kids that they can make a difference. There are many ways your kid can help charities, locally and around the world. Start with seasonal charity activities and then tackle your helping charities that appeal personally to your little ones. Working on charity projects together will build your family and your family's values in a positive manner. Try these ways your kid can help charities.

Acts of Kindness

Charity begins at home-and the neighborhood. Help your child care for elderly neighbors who may need to go grocery shopping or some yard work. Baking muffins, cookies or an extra pan of lasagna together is a delicious way to demonstrate acts of kindness to the elderly. Enroll you and your child in a day of leading activities at a senior center, animal shelter or orphanage. Exposing your child to people in need will allow him the opportunity to care for others.

Donations

Once every season, assign a special day as donation day. Collect old clothing and unused, but good items from around the home to take a local non-profit thrift store. Enlist your child's help in calling neighbors with the specific date and get them involved in your enterprise. Don't forget to go through the toys and games too.

Fundraising

Set up a lemonade stand or have a private bake sale to raise funds for your child's favorite charities. Non-profit programs like Toys for Tots and Angel Tree need money every year to buy toys for needy children, a program that your child would probably appreciate. Listen to your child's fundraising ideas. You never what good ideas your kids will come up with. Making and selling crafts like Christmas ornaments or handmade Valentines are wonderful ways to keep kids busy and raise funds for a worthy cause.

Monetary Giving

Sometimes this lesson is the most difficult to teach. Giving other people's money is sometimes easier than parting with our own hard-earned allowance. Offer your kid ways to earn extra cash for giving to his favorite charity. Alternatively, you could show him how to give 10% of his earnings to his church or a non-profit.
