Ways to Look and Feel Younger

We May Not Be Able to Stop Aging but We Can Slow it Down a Little

Walt Crocker

There may come a time when genetic scientists discover a way to keep people from aging. I'm not sure if we will ever be able to live forever, but we can live a full, long life that is healthy and we'll pretty much have the body and mind of a 21-year-old all the time that we are alive.

Just think of it. We'll have all of the energy of someone in their twenties, all of the can-do attitude, and vigor of a young person, but all of the wisdom and knowledge of someone who has lived a great number of years. No more forgetting things, losing our teeth and hair, or losing our interest in sex. No more dozing off in the afternoon and having our bones creak when we get up in the morning.

We may not be there yet, but with the way genetic science and medicine is supposed to grow in the next few years, we may not be far off. The trick then is to take care of ourselves now so we can make it to that time. According to CNN, here are a few things that can make you feel young that you can start doing today:

The first thing that you can do to feel younger is to get a good night's sleep. Right now most of us don't. You need eight hours of sleep a night. They have been saying that for a long time and it happens to be true.

During sleep is the only time that your body can repair itself. Go to bed early for the next six weeks and see the difference it can make. If you have trouble falling asleep, there are plenty of natural ways to help you relax without using drugs.

Make eighty percent of what you eat the good stuff and enjoy the heck out of the other twenty percent. That means eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, no processed food, and no preserved food. Buy local. When you do have that juicy steak of ice cream cone, don't feel guilty, just enjoy it just like when you were a kid.

Exercise. Do whatever kind of exercise that keeps you from getting bored. Some strength training won't hurt either. We lose a lot of muscle mass as we age so building up muscle can help make us less prone to injuries and feel a whole lot younger.

Try to look good. Don't go overboard but indulge yourself a little. Taking away some of the signs of aging can maker you feel better about yourself when you look in the mirror and that can make you feel younger.

Do something new. Learning something or doing something new everyday can make you feel young and refreshed. Try to take a moment and just enjoy it. Soak it in. Like the Buddhists say: "Live in the moment." Don't let life get stale. Have a positive attitude.

Act like a kid again. Go back and enjoy something that you enjoyed when you were growing up, whether it be a certain type of music that you liked or swinging on a swing at the playground. Go ahead. What's the point of being a grownup if you can't act like a kid every so often?
