Ways to Be More Comfortable When You Sleep

If you can't get comfortable at night it's impossible to sleep well. Lack of sleep can cause other problems and disrupt our days. If you can't seem to get comfortable at night, try some of these ways to be more comfortable when you sleep.

Flip your mattress to be more comfortable when you sleep

I recently was having a difficult time getting comfortable at night. I'd wake up frequently and have to change positions. I finally realized the mattress needed to be flipped. After living in my current home for almost a year I hadn't flipped the mattress once.

Once the mattress was flipped I immediately began sleeping better. If you want to be more comfortable when you sleep, try flipping the mattress and see if that helps.

Sleep with a pillow between your knees

A lot of people sleep on their sides and this can cause misalignments in the spine. Try placing a small pillow between your knees. It will lift the leg up and align it with your back bone.

When I have back or hip pain while lying on my side, I put a pillow between my knees and the pain dissipates almost instantly. It is a great way to be more comfortable when you sleep.

Sleep with your shoulders partially on the pillow

If you like to sleep with two pillows like I do, you probably wake up on occasion with a pain in your neck. .

It usually happens when you're lying with your shoulders on the mattress and your head propped up by the pillows. When you go to bed at night, make sure your shoulders are partially on the pillow so that your neck is not bent in an awkward position. You'll be much more comfortable when you sleep.

Stretches will help you to be more comfortable when you sleep

I have poor circulation so I like to do small stretches before going to bed. Lying on my back and stretching my arms and legs out as far as I can makes a big difference. Stretches also help to relax tense muscles, which will make you more comfortable when you sleep.

(For stretches to do before going to sleep and instructions on how to do them, see the link listed under resources).

These are just a few things I have done that help me to be more comfortable when I sleep. If you have trouble getting comfortable and would like some ways to be more comfortable when you sleep, try these suggestions.
