Ways to Make Neutering Easier for Your Dog

Keep Them Happy

Dan Reveal
You might feel that you are doing your male dog an injustice by having it neutered. After all, you are depriving it of being able to mate with a female dog and ultimately becoming a father. When you also consider that neutering prevents cancer of the testicles and allows your dog to achieve a more relaxed state of mind, however, you can approach the act of neutering your dog with a positive attitude.

Neutering is a common procedure, but it is still surgery. This means that you should treat the situation with a degree of caution. In general, you will want to think of your dog's point of view as you act upon those ways that will make neutering easier for your dog.

Precautionary Statement

The ways to make neutering easier for your dog most certainly involve practical steps that have to be performed before and after the surgery. These steps shouldn't be taken lightly since your dog's life depends on them. You don't want to feed your dog before it gets neutered, for example, so that it won't vomit during the surgery. You will also want to equip your dog with a surgery collar after it gets neutered so that it won't pull out the stitches.

Create a Comfortable Rest Area

As stated, you should try to see your dog's point of view as you act upon those ways that will make neutering easier for your dog. If you had just gone through surgery, for example, wouldn't you like to rest in a comfortable area for as long as it takes to feel better? Creating a comfortable rest area makes neutering easier for your dog since it has a place to sleep in an uninterrupted way. This rest area for your dog that has just been neutered should be a small place so that its movement is limited. It's also a good idea to put your dog in an area that can be cleaned easily in case the dog vomits.

Limit Your Dog's Contact with Others

Just as you've created a comfortable rest area to make neutering easier for your dog, you will want to limit its contact with others who might want to give it special attention. At this point, your dog probably just wants to sleep and it might still be sore at the point of incision. You will also want to keep other pets away to make neutering easier for your dog since these can be curious about the dog's sutures and even damage them.

In sum, there are ways to make neutering easier for your dog. Neutering is a common procedure, but it is still surgery and so you should take whatever precautions are necessary so that your dog can begin healing.

Oh Dan, sorry but I have to share my all-time favorite joke.
An old woman goes into the attic and finds an Aladdin's lamp. She rubs it.
A genie pops out and says, "Three wishes at your command"
The old woman thinks for a moment and says, "I wish I was young and beautiful again" Poof - she it.
Next the old woman looks down at her faithful companion and says, "I wish my cat was a handsome prince."
    Poof - done.
She looks around and says, "I wish I had enough money to fill this old house" - Poof, standing in a sea of millions of $$$ - the prince approaches, sweeps the beautiful young lady into his arms and whispers in her ear......

"Aren't you sorry you had me neutered??!"
    LOL - cheers :)

Great advice. The hardest part is getting them to remain calm for recovery

Great advice. My dog was neutered on Monday and came home Tuesday. He wears his cone collar and I kept him in a warm, comfy place so he could recover. He already wants to run around and play, but he is not fully recovered so I still keep him calm. He's doing great though!:)
