Ways to Occupy Your Mind When Your Flight is Delayed

Sophie
You have been rushing to get ready, driven to the airport, dropped off your car and rushed over to check in only to find out that your flight has been delayed. Has this ever happened to you? If so, read on for suggestions on how to occupy yourself.

It can be so frustrating when you get to the airport only to discover that your flight has been delayed, 2, 3 or perhaps more hours. Rather than become too downhearted about it, try to look at it from another perspective. At least you didn't miss your flight! Last year, my husband and I were on our travels and we were in a rush to get to the airport on time. We were sure we would end up with less than an hour before take off and we were worried that we would not be able to check in on time. We had mixed reactions when we were told the flight had been delayed. We could heave slept a little longer, taken a more leisurely drive and not been so stressed out. But it was a relief to be there in good time after all. If you take this view as well, it will set you off on the right footing before you have left. The last thing you want is to have your trip ruined just because of a delayed flight!

Try to plan for a situation like this by taking with you a good book to read, a small game or puzzle. Noisy airports are not really the best place to kick back and read a book, but it can help pass the time more quickly. Just be careful that you keep a strict watch on the time, so that you are ready when your plane s ready to leave. If possible, check in your luggage when you first arrive and then sit down with your book, game or puzzle. A quiz book may also help to pass the time of day. If you are flying with a family member or friend, ask them to join in with you. If you are with children, they will need to be kept occupied, so let them join in with you. It will help distract them from their boredom. If sitting around the terminal doesn't appeal to you, try wandering around and browsing in some of the shops. The prices are bound to be far more expensive than you would usually pay, so be careful that you do not indulge in too much retail therapy!

Unfortunately, some flights can be delayed for a very long time. If the next flight out will not be until the next day, talk with a member of staff and see if they are offering compensation or if they are going to put you up for the night. You will not want to stay overnight in the airport. Many airlines are willing to do this, as they do not want to lose your business.

In conclusion, try not to be too discouraged by your delayed flight. Once your flight arrives and you have reached your final destination you will hopefully realize that it was not worth getting upset about. Do not take out your frustration on the staff at the airport. Flight delays cannot always be helped. Let's just hope the flight home leaves on schedule.
