1. First and foremost you need to get a good pair of shoes. The best time to try on shoes is toward the end of the day and after you have been walking for a little while, this will ensure the proper fit. Our feet swell as the day goes on. I personally prefer Nike, but there are a lot of other shoes out there that are good quality. You may even want to take the extra step to add more support with shoe inserts. Dr Scholl's are very comfortable.
2. While doing aerobics at home with the help of an instructor on t.v. or by DVD is nice, an actual instructor can help you so much more. Most gyms offer classes and they aren't that expensive. Instructors can give you tips on how to do routines or parts of routines that are more high impact a different way to prevent you from getting injured. They can also make sure you are doing the routines correctly, it is easy to hurt your knees and ankles just like your feet.
3. Starting off slow is important when beginning any exercise, there is no need to try to kill yourself when you are just getting into it.
4. Make sure you have a warm up, whether you are at home or at the gym. Feeling awful and sore the next day won't make you want to go back again.
5. Wearing the proper clothing as well as the proper shoes will benefit you as well. They sell clothes that let your skin breath as well as make you comfortable. Always were socks with your tennis shoes to prevent blisters, odor, and it makes your shoes stay cleaner and last longer.
Consulting your doctor is always recommended before starting any new diet or exercise routine. If you are just starting out try to find a class for beginner's or ask your instructor for tips and modified routines. It is their job to help you do the routine right and let you get the most out of it, so don't be afraid to ask.
