Ways to Recycle Old Socks and Save Money

Recycling Old Socks Can Certainly Help Your Pocketbook

There are a multitude of ways to recycle old socks. We go through so many socks over the years, why not put them to good use when they've served their purpose and are about to be thrown in the trash? You can also save money by recycling old socks! Check out the following ways to recycle old socks and save yourself some money!

iPod Arm Band

If you don't want to spend $20 to $50 on an iPod arm band, an old sock will do the trick. Cut off the tube part of an old sock. Slide it onto the top of your arm and put your iPod under it. Make sure the sock is tight enough to hold the iPod. Only thing is you won't have access to the music buttons, so turn it on before you put it under your recycled "arm band" and listen and enjoy!

Heating Pad/Muscle Relaxer

Take an old sock (knee high socks work the best) and fill it with cheap white rice. Tie off the open end securely. Place the rice-filled sock in the microwave and heat it in 1 minute increments, carefully checking after each minute to see how hot the sock is. Your recycled "heating pad" should be ready after approximately 3-4 minutes maximum. Use it on your back or anywhere you have an aching muscle. Or just take it to bed with you in the cold winter months for some added warmth! No need to spend money on a heating pad when you can make it yourself!

Dusting Gloves

Old socks make excellent dusting gloves! Since they fit over your hand, they stay put and don't get all bunched up when you clean like traditional dusting cloths do. And socks are a great way to clean small spaces that are hard to get at. For example, a sock makes it easy to clean the dusty rungs on a fan or dirty mini blinds! Try it! I think you'll be surprised! And it will save you money on dusting cloths!
