Ways to Reduce Stress

Stress can affect you both physically and mentally. Sometimes there are things you can do to avoid stress and sometimes you can't but here are a few ways that you can reduce stress in your life.

Be organized. If you keep your things where they belong and organize drawers, closets and other spaces, then you will reduce some stress in your life. How many times have you looked around the house for something and got frustrated that you could not find it? If you keep the scissors in a certain drawer in a certain spot at all times when you are done using them, then you will always know where they are. Always try to put things back in their proper spots so that you know where they will be. It can cut down on the stress of not being able to find something, especially when you are in a rush. It is especially good to keep your car or house keys in a certain spot.

If your job is really stressing you out and it is becoming overwhelming, consider searching for another job. Weigh out the pros and cons of your current job and see if it is worth it for you to stay. You may find another job with lighter duties, better pay or a better work environment and that will help you cut down on some of the stress from working.

Try not to get yourself too high in debt. Do not let your credit card balances get too high and do not spend way more than you can afford. Instead, save up for items that you want. You could even save half of the cash that you want for an item and then put the other half on the credit card. At least this way, you have a smaller balance than if you put the whole price of the item on your credit card.

Plan out your meals for the week ahead of time. This will help you to figure out what to buy when you go to the grocery store. Pack your lunch the night before you go to work so that you won't have to do it in the morning, when you may feel more rushed.

Exercise. Exercising is a good way to relieve stress. It helps you to get your body moving, increase your energy and improve your mood. You could do an aerobic exercise, go for a walk or jog, join a gym or a dance class.

Laugh a lot. Spend time with people who make you laugh or make yourself laugh. Watch funny movies, stand up comedians or read joke books or books with funny stories. Sometimes when I'm going through difficult times, I try to find some humor to help myself through the situation and brighten up my mood. Laughing reduces stress. Try to let loose and enjoy some moments of laughter.

Dance. Although this is pretty much the same as exercise, I really like that dancing can help to relieve my stress. Listen to music that gets you moving and makes you want to dance. Between listening to the music and dancing to it, you will have a good combination to help reduce some stress and make you feel better. Move your body and shake some of that stress away.

Reach out for help. If your stress is becoming too overwhelming, ask for assistance. You could try looking for a babysitter for your children so you can have a night out. You could also try talking to a therapist or counselor who can help you to find ways to cut down on your stress levels. If you have friends and family that you think would be willing to help you out, then call them and reach out to them and ask for help. I'm sure they would rather see you get the help you need before your stress levels become too high.

Listen to relaxing music while taking a warm bath. Water can be very soothing, whether it be the sound of water, the sight of water or being in water. I have a little water fountain that I can plug in and listen to the sound of the water trickling. This is very calming to me. I also like watching the water fall down the sides of the fountain. It makes me think that I am drowning my worries away and relieving my stress.

Meditate or do yoga. I've heard from people that yoga helps you to relax and it can help to reduce stress. It helps you to react in a better way to stress. Yoga and meditation may make you a calmer person and that may help you to handle your stress better.

Try to get up a little earlier before work so that you will not be rushing around when you have to leave. Those few extra minutes might help you to feel more relaxed and less hurried. Try to go to back at a decent hour so that you get enough proper sleep at night. Not having proper sleep can make you feel more stressed out.

Do not wait until the last minute to get important things done. I know that when I had school projects to do, sometimes I would wait until the last minute to do them. This caused me so much stress. If you take the time each day to just do some work on that project or whatever it is you have to do, then you will feel better knowing that you have it done before it is due.

Make time for yourself. Try to create some personal time or alone time for yourself. You could read a book, a magazine, do a crossword puzzle or daydream. Give yourself some time to focus on yourself. Sometimes life can get so busy and you can end up doing so many things for other people. Remember to take time for yourself too.
