Make Crafts:
Making crafts can be great therapy! There are so many different kinds of crafts to make; sewing crafts, painting crafts, holiday crafts, scrapbooking crafts, etc. There are also a lot of crafts that can be made from recycled materials which you might find intriguing. Many craft stores offer craft classes. Working on a craft that interests you can be very therapeutic and relaxing.
Talk To Someone:
Sometimes getting stress off your chest can be just what the doctor ordered. But you need a special person who will listen to you without judging or criticizing. And you need someone who will be supportive. If you have a close friend or sibling or spouse or child with whom you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts, it might be very helpful knowing that someone else understands what is causing your stress.
Listen to Music:
Sounds simple! And it is! Listening to music that you enjoy can put you in a more upbeat frame of mind.
Take A Walk By Yourself:
Sometimes we just need to clear our minds from all of the stress-inducing events of the day. Get out of your house and out into the fresh air. Concentrate on your walking and breathing and how good it feels to be active. Look at the trees, listen to the birds, just appreciate the simplicity of nature. You'll feel refreshed without trying very hard.
Embrace Simplicity:
We are so often moving on fast forward with our cell phones, e-mails, texts, tweets, etc. It sometimes seems like we never stop. Instead of thinking of all the things we haven't done or need to do, take pleasure in accomplishing simple things. Take your dog for a walk and appreciate the simplicity of making your pet happy. Call your child, be thankful for the relationship you have. Light a candle, take a shower, read a book or even just a chapter. Turn the complexities of the world off, even if just for a short time.
Stop Listening To What Other People Say
We are all unique individuals. Our wants and desires vary greatly. If people expect you to think or act a certain way, and it's just not you, then do what you want, not what they want. Do what it is that makes you tick. Feeling pressure to live up to other people's expectations of us is not healthy. If people don't understand why you like spending time alone, that's okay. If they don't understand why you like to exercise a lot, that's okay. If they don't understand why spending time with your children is what makes you happy, that's okay. It's your life, not theirs.
