Seminole Tribe Casino: Previous dilemma's with the State of Florida
Earlier, during 2007, the Governor of Florida had permitted the Seminole Tribe Casino to include table games by finalizing 2007 gaming compact. At that time, the authorities were not as willing as the Governor was to offer permission to the Seminole Tribe Casino. The authorities disapproved this because they were of the view that the Seminole Tribe Casinos were monopolies with consideration to table games in Florida. This debate has been ongoing for a couple of years now and there is a feeling that the Governor did not have the authority to offer the requisite permission to the Seminole Tribe Casino. Thus, Florida state authorities are against the permit offered to Seminole Tribe Casinos. There was also the opinion that based upon the 'Gaming Regulatory Act', the casinos can be asked to pay a hefty fine for violating the codes mentioned in the laws that govern gambling. In addition to this, the casinos can also be forced to stop all gambling operations.
Seminole Tribe Casino: Recent news
The state authorities have asked the Seminole Tribe Casino to close down since the lawmakers consider that the Seminole Tribe Casino has not been in compliance with the gambling laws that have been placed for the state of Florida. When and if, Florida authorities choose to close the doors to the Seminole Tribe Casino, it directly means that the state's revenue is simultaneously affected. The funds generated by the Seminole Tribe Casino cease, then the fund resource for state run educational institutions of Florida will lose financial aid.
Seminole Tribe Casino's survival
Owners of dog tracks used for racing also want the Seminole Tribe Casinos to go out of business since the table games offered by the casinos offer a stiff competition to their business since the table games have become a hit with customers. The only concern here is the loss of money that Florida's educational system be losing when they pressure the casinos to close their operations. In June 2009, the casinos were not willing to accept the deal that Florida suggested. The deal states that the casinos should be willing to pay the state 150 million dollars per year for being permitted for table games such as blackjack and slot machines. During August 2009, the casinos had to respond since the deadline offered to them was ending. By the end of the month of August 2009, the Seminole decided to accept the agreement to pay the state the requested amount. As a result, the Seminole Tribe Casino has been permitted to run blackjack and slot machines since an agreement to that effect has been signed and is in force for 20 years.
By supporting the Seminole Tribe Casino's request for table games, this allows for the financial assistance Florida's educational system may need. Is this really supporting gambling or supporting the State of Florida's education system?
