Develop Good Habits
One quick way to simplify cleaning your home is to always pick up after yourself right away. It's a simple act that goes a long way in the long run, as you won't have to spend your entire Saturday cleaning your bathroom. By cleaning up the toothpaste in the sink immediately, you won't have to scrub it later when it's dry, reducing your overall cleaning workload.
Keep Cleaning Supplies Together
I learned quickly that having my bleach in the bathroom was great for cleaning the bathroom, but not so great when I needed it for laundry or in the kitchen. By running around looking for cleaning supplies, I was being counter-productive.
Therefore, it's important to keep all of your cleaning supplies together in one space. Try to put them all into a large plastic bin or other storage container so you can pull them out and bring them with you rather than having to grab individual products. By having everything together, you'll spend less time looking for things and more time cleaning; which in turn will speed up the process and simplify cleaning your home.
What Works For You
For some, setting a schedule for cleaning works well; though for others a cleaning schedule on top of their work or school schedule along with kids or pets; just adds additional, unnecessary stress.
It's important to figure out what works best for your individual situation. For some, this could mean setting aside 10 minutes at the beginning or end of the day to clean up, whereas others may dedicate a few hours each weekend to cleaning. Some families may choose to designate certain areas to certain family members, such as the children cleaning up the living room and the parents cleaning up the kitchen, or vice versa.
In some cases, cleaning just can't be scheduled and it works best to clean whenever they have the time. In short, stop worrying about having a schedule or following rules when it comes to cleaning your home; just focus on what works best for you and your family.
Declutter, Organize
Removing unnecessary clutter can aid in simplifying cleaning your home, as there will be less to clean and less to worry about. Throw out items you don't use, don't need, or have been in storage for more than a few years. If you're unsure of whether or not to throw something out, grab a box, throw it in (with any other items you're unsure of) and see if you reach for them in that box over the next six months. If you don't, toss the box.
Organization can also be beneficial, but like a schedule, organization is dependent upon the person. If you don't like the standard 'rules of organization' like labels, designated boxes or what not, then just set up your own organization system. Organization cabinets, drawer dividers, storage boxes, shelves and so forth are completely useless if they only stress you out more so only use what works for you and your needs, rather than whatever looks good in the store or on the pages of a catalog.
