There are many ways that you can connect with other Moms while being a stay at home Mom. Some of these suggestions can include your child or children while other suggestions are just for you. Some suggestions may include childcare while others will not. Consider doing something when your husband is home or ask a friend or family member to watch your child.
Below are some ideas on ways you can connect with other Moms. Some involve your child(ren) and others do not.
If you go to church, try attending a Bible study, small group, or get involved in the Women's Ministry. Many Bible studies and small groups meet weekly while Women's ministry events may be a bit more sporadic and spaced out. Some churches may offer childcare (either free or for a small fee) while you attend a Bible study.
Do you like to scrapbook? Many scrapbooking stores or independent consultants offer monthly "crops" where you can get together with other avid scrapbookers and make layouts for your album while chatting with other adults. Not only will you be getting a break from the kids but you will be creating something that will later be priceless to your child.
Join a book club. You can relax and read the book while your child is napping or off to school and then discuss the book with other adults.
Do you have several friends with other children around your child's age? Create your own little play group by getting together with these other Moms and their children once a month, every other week, or whatever works best for your schedules. While the children play with one another, you and the other Moms can chat.
Join a gym or a jazzercise program. You can stay healthy while getting out of the house and connecting with other adults. Many gyms offer free childcare while you work out.
Check and see if your local library has story time for your child. Some bookstores offer story time for children as well. You would get a chance to mingle with other Moms before or after story time.
If your child has special needs, try to find a support group in your area for their disability such as a Down syndrome group or a group for parents who have autistic children.
Not only does connecting with other Mothers get you out of the house and provides you with the opportunity for adult interaction and conversation, but you will be able to share your trials and tribulations with other Mothers as well as learn from theirs.
