Ways to Stop a Headache

Lori Piper
Today is the day... a final and a huge presentation at work (or anything situation similar to equal a very important day). However, upon awaking this morning, you discovered that you have a pounding headache.

This happened to a friend of mine this week. She had two school functions that day and an evening planned with some of her husbands' coworkers. All she wanted to do was crawl back in bed, burrow under the covers, and arise once the headache was gone.

Did she? Could she? Of course not. She called in the troops... all her friends and asked each of us to provide a headache remedy.

Here is the list...

Tips to take the headache out of having a headache- be a loose goose

My friend has long hair--- typically; she goes to sleep with her hair piled atop her head in a scrunchie... ones made by her mom... with a tight elastic band. My advice was to let her hair down...alleviating pressure to the scalp. Instant relief.

Tips to take the headache out of having a headache- great hands

Another friend told her to massage her temples with two fingers, rubbing some peppermint oil in as well. She did not have the peppermint oil... but I do. It was a gift from my sister... Bath and Body works is our very good friend.

Tips to take the headache out of having a headache- Laugh In was smart

Waking up with a headache can be prevented by making sure your feet are covered. Especially in winter. Running around barefoot can cause poor blood flow throughout our body, up to and including our head. Sock it to me. When I was in Maine, I wore multiple layers of socks... and experienced no headaches.

Tips to take the headache out of having a headache- home remedies

Natural Cider Vinegar--- my friend was told by her mother- in- law to drink a glass of water with a tablespoon of vinegar. If she did this daily, not only would her headaches decrease, but also her overall health would improve. My parents, too, recommend this remedy. Her husband's friend recommended cayenne pepper. Another friend, the one with common sense, told my friend... take some ibuprofen.

As we all met up and talked about this a few days later, we discussed that these were all remedies we were aware of and have tried. Don't you just love the irony in that... she gave herself a headache in trying to prevent one. Sometimes, simple is best. Remember that. None of these will help if the reason for the headache is serious... check with your doctor if they persist. However, if you find yourself waking up with a doozy of a headache one day... on a very important day...

Which one works best for you?
