Ways for Teens to Stay Healthy This Summer

Eating Right - With many teens just getting their license and their first car for their first job, it is important to remember that fast food is still unhealthy. Most teens begin to eat a large amount of McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bel, etc., when they first get their license, but in order to stay healthy this summer it is important to eat those homecooked meals by mom. Meals cooked at home have much less fat, most of the time, and calories which will keep you from gaining those unwanted pounds to look good in those swimsuits.

Get Enough Sleep - Another risk that teens take on when summer comes around is simply the fact that their sleep schedule gets tweaked. When your sleep schedule gets tweaked by an hour or two, that is not that big of a deal. It is when you are losing hours of sleep every night where you are getting only 5 or 6 hours each night is when it become a problem. Sleep is essential to rebuilding both the brain and muscles for the next day, and when you are not getting enough sleep, you actually have a chance of gaining more weight and overall become less healthy than if you are getting a full 8 hour rest.

Stay Active - The most obvious one of all. In order to stay healthy, it is essential to stay active. Whether that means going outside and doing some yardwork, going on a run, or playing games and sports outside with friends, anything will work. It is important to get at the very least 30 minutes of exercise daily to maintain good health, and with summer rolling around there should be no problem to get to that number every day. Some easy ideas to get exercise are hiking, running, swimming, sports, and really anything that gets the heart pumping will give one a good workout.

Get Out and Do Something - Even though many people will get their 30 minutes of activity each day, that is all that a lot of people do. It is not very healthy to just get your daily workout and then go back to being couped up inside all day. It affects your social skills and social level. It is important to get out and do some things that aren't necessarily suited to what you are normally accustomed with doing. Going and doing things you aren't used to will give you a healthier look at life and a healthier lifestyle.
