It should be no surprise to anybody that knows me well, as the target this week is Hulk Hogan. I thought about throwing TNA under the bus, or even Eric Bischoff, but I can't do it with a straight face without wanting to slap Hogan in his.
TNA signed their death warrant in October of last year, when they let Hogan and Bischoff sign unspecified deals with the company. At least that's the way I see it.
He sat in waiting until the first of the year, when he made his Impact debut on the live 3-hour broadcast back on January 4. They went head-to-head with "Monday Night Raw" and their guest host, the returning Bret "Hitman" Hart, who had just signed a short-term deal with the company.
First thing Hogan and Bischoff said was there would be major changes in the company. They were going to comb through every aspect of TNA and turn things around.
Well the first item up on that agenda was to completely do away with the six-sided ring. Claiming there would be no more "playpen rings" in TNA, the Genesis pay-per-view was the first event since 2004 in which they had not used the six-sided ring. It's no secret that the only reason you got rid of that ring was because you didn't want "your boys" working any harder than they absolutely HAVE to.
Congratulations Hogan, 30 minutes into the first pay-per-view of the year, and the fans are ready to cook you over an open flame.
Oh wait...I almost forgot...now we got The Nasty Boys, Scott Hall, and Sean "Syxx" Waltman. I'm sorry, didn't we see this already? Oh I don't know, what, about 15 years ago?
If it were just Eric Bischoff, I don't honestly think any of this would be happening right now. Bischoff by himself is a maniacal genius. But Hogan seems to have this morbid obsession with the destruction of Vince McMahon. Every week it's a different reference, and now we have the notion that Hogan wants to take TNA live every other Monday night, to...as he put it...take Vince's audience, piece by piece.
You want to raise the ratings Hogan? LEAVE! And take the irrelevant Lost Boys with you, the Nasty Boys, and the two walking fire hazards, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman. If Hall would stay sober for more than 60 seconds, he might be a talent worth producing on a semi-regular basis. If Waltman would admit he still needs someone to hold his hand while crossing the street, he might be okay. And the God-forsaken Nasty Boys haven't been relevant since their concession brawls with Harlem Heat back in 1995.
Jim Cornette...are you listening? You've been dumped by both companies. For probably the stupidest reasons known to man. But for the sake of the business that I have busted my butt for 10 years now...will you please get Ring of Honor on the ball with a TV deal that will shut down the two biggest weekly travesty on cable television?!
