WD-40 Used for Cleaning

Seriously, I thought WD-40 was only used on squeaky doors. I had no idea, until recently, that it could be used for so many different things.

For instance, did you know that WD-40 was used to stop corrosion on the Atlas Missile nosecone and on airplanes, and to also stop moisture from accumulating on electrical circuits.

Apparently the engineers who worked at the Rocket Chemical Company was so impressed with it, that they started taking it home with them to use on stuck locks and squeaky doors.

I've listed some things that this lubricant can be used on, and hopefully you will see something you can use it for besides squeaky doors.

Grease Stains on Linen
After spraying the stain, rub the WD-40 into the item, then let it sit for a few minutes before washing.

Fishing Lure
When you spray the lubricant on your fish bait, it covers up the human scent, and makes it easier to lure fish. However, the company that makes WD-40 will never advertise this fact, because they are concerned about the pollution this could cause to the ecosystem.

Chewing Gum on Bottom of Shoes
Spray the gum, let it sit a few minutes, then the gum will pull off easily.

Tar and Crayon on Surfaces
Just spray, let it sit a few minutes, then wipe clean.

Polish Furniture
Spray a cloth, wipe your wood furniture, then polish with a clean cloth.

Dog Mange
Using WD-40 to spray your dog does get rid of mites, but the WD-40 Company will not advertise this, because of possible miss-use. So just the spray on for about 30 minutes, then wash your dog with shampoo for mange. Put a collar around your dog's neck to prevent him or her from licking their bodies.

Clean Barbecue Grills
Do not spray the grill while it's still on the barbecue. After you spray the grill, let it sit for about 30 minutes before you wipe clean, then wash with water and soap.

Clean Windows
This is how you clean the fake snow from your windows after Christmas. Before you decorate your windows with the snow, spray them with the WD-40 first. When you wipe your windows, the snow will come off easier.

Stop Insects and Dogs From Bothering Trash Cans
Spray a layer of WD-40 inside your trash cans. This will keeps maggots, flies and dogs out of your trash.

Hangers and Clothes Rods
If your have trouble with your hangers not moving smoothly on your clothes rod, try spraying it with the lubricant.

Squirrels in Your Birdhouse
Squirrels are great climbers and they will get in your birdhouse. Spray the birdhouse pole, then it will be to slippery for them to climb.

New Shoes and Squeaks
Spray your leather shoes, then wipe clean. This will eliminate the squeaking.

Removing Bugs From Your Car
If you spray your car's grill and hood, then you can wipe the bugs off your car without them sticking to the paint.

Rings on Your Finger
If your ring gets stuck on your finger, or your finger gets stuck inside a bottle, or your toe gets stuck in the bathtub faucet, then just spray with WD-40 and they will slip right out.

A Squeaky Mattress
Remove the staples in the cover of your box spring mattress. Spray the box springs, then replace the cover and re-staple.

Clean You Cookie Pan
If food gets stuck to your cookie pan, just spray then wipe clean, and wash with warm soap and water.

A Blackboard and Crayon
Spray the crayon, let it sit for about 15 minutes then wipe clean

Electrical Wires and Conduits
It can be hard to get wires through a conduit without get stuck. Just spray the wires first, and this will allow the wires to move easily.

Bicycles, Mud and Clay
If you spray your bicycles with a layer of WD-40, then wipe it clean, this will prevent mud and clay buildup from adhering to it.

Clean Your Driveway
Spray the oil spots on your driveway, let them stand for a few minutes, then blot dry.

Sap and Your Garden Tools
To clean sap from your garden tools, just spray, then wipe clean.

Spray Paint Nozzles
If you want to clean a clogged spray paint nozzle, just exchange it with the WD-40 spray nozzle. Spray a few times to un-clog, then change nozzles back.

Grass Clippings and Your Lawn Mower
Before you mow the lawn, spray the underside of your lawn mower, and the blades. This prevents the clippings from sticking to them.

Frozen Metal and Your Tongue
This sounds more a child than an adult, but if this should happen, just spray WD-40 around the metal where the tongue is stuck. This will melt the snow so your tongue can be pulled away. Of course, if of the spray gets into your mouth, rinse and clean your mouth immediately.

Remove Spray Paint From Cars
Just spray the paint, wait a few minutes, then wipe the car clean. This removes the spray paint without damaging your car.

Clean Shower Doors
It doesn't matter if the doors are plastic or glass, just them with WD-40, then wipe clean. It removes all grime and water spots.

Protect Silver From Tarnishing
Spray your silver, wipe clean, then wash with soap and water

Shine Your Floors
Just spray your floors with WD-40, then wipe clean. Your floors will shine without being slippery.

Remove Lipstick StainClothes
Just spray the area, let it sit a few minutes, then wash the item as you usually do.

Remove Stains From Stainless Steel Sinks
Spray the stain, wait a few minutes, then wipe clean and rinse.

Lubricate Guitar Strings
Spray a cloth, then wipe the guitar strings.

Get Rid of Pigeons
No, I don't mean kill them. But if you live somewhere that has a balcony, and pigeons have a tendency to land on it and make a mess, then spray the balcony with WD-40 and the pigeons will your balcony alone. They hate the smell of the lubricant.

WD-40 was invented in 1953 by Norman Larsen, the head chemist and president of the Rocket Chemical Company. In 1969 however, the company changed their name to The WD-40 Company.

There are probably hundreds of ways to use this lubricant , and the ones mentioned above are just some of them. In fact, this product is so versatile, that it was even used to coat the Friendship VII orbiter, and the state of New York uses it to protect the Statue of Liberty from the elements.

I've even been told that it can keep flies off cows, and will get rid of the glue left by duct tape. Of course some of the uses may be questionable, but according to Ken East, one of the original founders, there is nothing in WD-40 that will hurt you.

However, I would follow the instructions on the can. It clearly states that this product is harmful or fatal if swallowed. So if you have concerns about cleaning with WD-40, then use it in places where children and pets can't get.
