WDW Magic Kingdom: Liberty Square

Jon Sugi
Welcome foolish mortals to the Liberty Square.... This is the square of the most historically and educational attraction in the Magic Kingdom. This land is the smallest land in the entire park, but holds one of my most loved and probably my favorite attraction. Liberty Square is really just a connector from Fantasyland to Frontierland. And all the rides are either off to the side, or well blended in with the rest of the park. But do not overlook this land; it has some amazing dining and shopping options.

Liberty Square: The Hall of Presidents, Haunted Mansion and the Liberty Square Riverboat. The first of the three is a show about the presidents from the first to the present. Disney will always build a new audio animatronic when a new president is placed in office. This show uses one of the largest video projection screens in the world.

The show theatre is large, dark and cool. Some people write on forums and books about how they like to rest their feet, even their eyes during this show. I personally enjoy watching our history, and then sometimes taking a nap at the show.

Haunted Mansion is a dark ride about the 999 grinning ghosts. This ride is not scary at all, except in sweet ways only Disney could imaginear. This ride is longer than most rides and has an amazing load time, allowing many people to ride this attraction each hour. I will say some small children might be intimidated by the mansion, or even afraid of all the darkness.

In the attic scene there are some heads that pop up and down, but not in a very frightening manner. But this might scare young children. I suggest parents riding the ride using the baby swap method to determine if the child should ride. For a quick reference, the baby swap is when the parents tell the cast members they will be using the baby swap.

Usually the cast member will give the adult with the child a special pass. The first adult waits in line as regular. When the first adult is done with the ride the second adult can go ride the attraction using the pass while the first adult waits with the child. The baby swap pass is usually a very good pass to use and will get you very far ahead in the line. Some attractions are better than others with the baby swap. The Liberty Square boat is a large boat that goes around the lagoon. Nothing really special here, a nice long boat ride. I would suggest passing this up unless someone in your party really wants to ride.

Food and shopping are placed inside this land very well. There are four shops and four restaurants. Nothing regarding the shopping stands out to me particularly. The best place I can recommend for food is the Colombia Harbour House that features some good clam chowder and chicken strips. This is located directly across from the Haunted Mansion, so it makes for a great snack or lunch break.
