We

A Love Poem

Tao Joannes
I am a rose petal,
Leopard spot.
I am a single sweet green blade of grass.

I am a zebra stripe,
White snowflake.
I am a dust mote on warm southern wind.

I am nothing alone.
I am incomplete in solitude.
I am never full without you.

You are a slender stem,
Shining claw.
You are a flower, roots tangling with mine.

You are a stone-like hoof,
Small hailstone.
You are the vapors of heat that I ride.

You are nothing alone.
You are incomplete in solitude.
You are never full without them.

They are the soil, sun, roots, and water.
They are the life-blood, soul, bone, and muscle.
They are the south wind, sky, light, and thunder.

With them, we are a garden, and
We stalk the desert plains silently.
We are a prairie of light and life.

All altogether, we flee the hunt, and
We cover fields in a blanket of snow.
We are the sandstorm stripping flesh from bone.

We are nothing alone
We are incomplete in solitude
We are never full without each other.
