The reason this came to mind is that I recently became aware of my need (or demand, if you will) for "embarrassment avoidance". That is, I do not want to be in situations where I look stupid or unknowledgeable. A co-worker asked me one morning recently "did you watch the game?" Since he knows that I am a baseball fan, I assumed he meant the baseball game. And furthermore, since he knows that I am an Atlanta Braves fan, I assumed he meant the Atlanta Braves baseball game. The former assumption was correct however the latter one was incorrect. I replied, "Did the Braves play?" My juvenile question was met with mockery and laughter. This is apparently because the Braves are pretty much finished for the season. The game he was referring to was a tiebreaker between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies. I then had to admit that I had not kept up with the Braves for the last several weeks. I was jeered, albeit jokingly, with "Are they even playing anymore? Have they played all season!?" Some people are so cruel.
It can be difficult to keep up with all the news. Some sites may report things that others do not. It is not easy to get the whole story at one location. This is why I am putting out the call for someone to create a baseball-centric news site that draws from multiple sources. The site would not have to gather and report the news but simply be a place that users can view various news organizations' headlines. A similar site has already been developed for Apple, Macintosh, and iPod news, the popular Macscour.com. Take time to look over Macscour.com. There are feeds from all of the major Apple-related news and rumor sites as well as the news feed from Apple.com. A clever and ambitious web developer or development team could create the same type of gathering for sports news. In my case, I would be more satisfied with such a site that focused on a single sport (e.g. baseball). The possibilities would be endless: a hockey news site, a football one, a polo one. News feeds could come from ESPN, MLB or other sites.
Why do I not do it? The is simple: I do not know how. But I do not think I need to know how because I believe that the right person for the job is already out there and that he has the know-how. All he needs is the idea or perhaps just the motivation. He may only need to know that the demand exists. Well, as all the kids are fond of saying these days, "here's your sign." Or more appropriately, "If you build it, they will come."
