For example YouTube total daily views are greater than CNN News and this is affecting the price of photojournalists pay packets and reducing job numbers, anyone these days can make a video with reasonable priced Flip Cam. They can even make 3D video's.
One of the key factors in life is money, 'its all about the money' and this topic crops up time and time again.
Thankfully one place where money pots still exist is in writing but the on-line distribution of this literature as far as copyright goes is changing and I think it is important to inform our viewers and fellow authors about these changes.
On the bright side of things the opportunities in theory should expand, so by creating pay walls the market should create more reputable readers. These readers are generally people who take time out there busy day and read, they do this in between working hard at something there good at, when their not spending money that is.
We all like to spend right? Some of us are better than others but one common innate thing we all share is 'we never want to be ripped of' nor should we ever 'sell our selves short'; these are just a couple of dichotomies that I wish to address in my comparison; or rather my comparing what is happening in how we receive journalist worthy news.
We go to work. Some people have contracts, others go freelance, some people are working for agencies other people are merging with agencies. Governments are hiring agencies; more so today than ever, as positions available lack the volunteers, and even worse for some positions where they were before; in the IT industry for example are falling by the wayside.
I would be ignoring the biggest issue if I was to tell you otherwise.
According to quotes from The Journalist figures are shocking. Some of the largest media conglomerates are really loosing out. The newspapers previously take over by people with money who wish to own their share of what's being said.
Now I think the free honey moon period is over and often the case is the people with these intentions and operate on levels higher than you cannot possibly comprehend this has no meaning what so ever.
This is just one example of how we build our own pay wall around us. The payment to ourselves is time. This pay wall can isolate us, but the good thing about this is we have time to read and address the current global trend emerging about current other attention deficit disorders. And by staying in we get to experience our own style of wonderful cooking, but part of my own experience of this is; still niggling away, the same part that says "Its all about the money!" tells me "What about the businesses that provide a great service?" and think how bad it would be if we went there, only to find they had closed down.
Businesses close down everyday but the well branded and highly authoritative news channels still stay afloat, if this is not a an important part of supply and demand I do not know what is. These associations with content can symbolically be forgotten. only when we realise that actually getting to know individual bloggers and autonomous groups rather than looking up-to and getting enthusiastic about delegated officials who edit or write regularly in our favorite tabloid. Why we put companies on pedestals is beyond me after-all this pay wall principle includes them, right?
Which leads me on to my next analogy.
Peer pressure, we have experienced a multi million reasons not to go out and do rash things but when the stakes are high and the returns are good... we weigh up everyday the options. These options and price plans are rapidly changing and the letters you get through the post of companies through direct mail is being reduced by offering discount via e-mail.
As the environment changes and the money pots move around NASDAQ attention shifts too.
Depending on your overheads and rent you pay, you will just about manage to stay afloat, but when disasters happen this can affect our consciousness.
What I love about the human race is, we all miraculously chip in and begin to give a little; then give more and some even give everything.
This is what has been happening and why we have come to this, the price wall is in direct competition to give - so much - that the system is breaking, or so it seems.
As much as we see ourselves as advocates for on-line possibilities I like many am beginning to question the validity of it all.
Within Social Media in my books like many have mastered and spent far to much time trying to understand the sales and marketing magic of things like Twitter. Spent far to much time: creating my own world of content and research without creating any pay walls. Why is this I wonder?
This again to some could seem quite worrying, after-all without a payment scheme there would be no comparison of education and money.
That alone is just another example of how its all about the money.
The money is good because its objective and set aside for a rainy day and when need be, during times of trouble these are the people who are able to make a difference.
Not by going out and whistling rain-dance tunes or tapping into the information night sky, reading we can all understand skills.
We love to categorise and men especially love measuring things.
Science is becoming open source in the hope that an individual will figure out or create a new code or model that we can all follow.
From this could become a prequel of a popular book or e-book which on the back end of someone elses idea will grow into a valuable solution.
If you are a writer and reading this article remember without writers exploring interpretations of the world 'there would be no advertising' and this is the reality people are cashing in on today.
This is what binds journalism together, and luckily there are those that still believe the adverts are better than the content in the body of the text.
This is the relationship the Media and The People who consume the media food bank on, 'Social Media' and if you think this is any different then just take a walk outside of a shopping mall or any other popular hub where people reside.
You will find new and interesting ways that advertisers are broadcasting. We see tubular spheres of advertising at the 02 center, billboards on the underground are becoming digital and even nature is being digitized as the synergy of media, human wanting and natural sounds and scenes come together.
Its these unnatural environments that will become our own pay walls. After-all electricity costs money.
Internet costs are through bandwidth and news requires readers, luckily on-line websites are creating some great video's.
Some of them are even showing up in the search engines.
Be mindful of this when you require a time to fill in the gap its not always the first video that you stumble upon that will answer your question. If your creativity really is flowing, and your knowledge of surrounding and creating yourself with your own media conquests are good too, just remember this: in-order to get lots and lots of people consuming your content you may have to go outside the comforts of your home and social media to get any feedback. If you have something to sell I wish you luck because if you have money you have obviously worked hard, but my theory is that if pay walls exist then to what price are we paying as individuals and what effects is this having on the global economy, no one ever seems to talks about the effects of technology.
In conclusion perhaps its time to begin a discussion, and just to let you know what content you are reading here is nothing new. The big five companies that have the large deals and control the distribution of news are objective enough to provide the public with most popular and current ethos around today. The same token the power of social media is true to persuade groups of people to all agree on the same things, however if we create our own pay walls around us, will this effect the content of information delivered or in anyway protect us from the global consciousness that is effecting our space. Like social media We dress up and improve the aesthetics of our content, would you want someone in the morning telling you what to wear?
And the power of words is no way any different to the sound and voice of a nation but when voices are phonetically wrong or grammatically different, does this really take away from the essence of what is innate or in tune with the global heartbeat of the social media planet platter? Choice is good but too many choices and to many restrictions are what bug people these days. Time consuming, energy draining and on instances a down right waste of the publics time.
