We go on!
Over the years many of us, or perhaps all of Dad's kids have had skin cancer at one time or another. Some 19 years after Dad died Lyle died also of cancer, but he was only 46 years old when he died; Dad was 72 at the time he passed.
Still we go on!
Just over a year after losing Lyle to cancer, welost Mother to a stroke. My family and I had spent the week with her and gone home on Friday night after getting home from work. The kids were out for the Christmas holidays. We hadn't been home long whe the phone rang. It was Mother's next door neighbor. It seem that Mother didn't want to be by herself and went over for a visit after we left. The neighbor had to call an ambulance to come get her and take her to the Emergency Room at the local hospital. As soon as the ambulance left her house, the neighbor caled us. We called Mae, and Sharon, Lyle's widow--then left for the hospital. We ran by Mother's hous and dropped the kids off there. They were to young to stay at the hospital but old enough to stay by themselves that near us. In a little while Mae and Sharon joined us at the hospital. They had brought their kids and left them at Mother's house too along with ours. We stayed at the hospital fom Friday Night until Mother died about 2:00 a.m. Sunday or Monday morning. By that time I was so sleepy that even until now I still am not sure which day she died. I do know that she never regained consciousness from the time the ambulance picked her up until she died.
We Trudge On!
About seven years after Mother passed; Elwyn, another brother died from a chainsaw accident. He had the accident one day, and before 24 hours were up he was dead from the infection that had setup in his intestines.
Still we go on!
