We Have to Hunt Them Down

Coffee Mugg

Late at night they greet each other,
You can hear them for miles around,,
They must be having a party
From all the happy sounds.
They howl and yelp and sing their song,
Dance around like nothing's wrong.

They have just gotten back from hunting
And are sharing what they caught.
Their young are very important,
And they feed on what they brought,
They will grow up big and strong,
So when they grow they will carry on.

The way of life of the coyote
Is a very simple one.
They are very leery,
And frighten of our guns.
They try to stay away from us
And do the things that they must,
But sometimes they tread
Where they shouldn't,
And this causes quiet a fuss.

I wish we could tell them not to,
And to go hunt somewhere else,
This I think they would rather do,
Than to take our livestock's pelts.

It hurts so much to do it,
But we do what we have to do,
We have to protect our livestock
So the coyotes we must pursue.
They come after our cows and sheep
When their food cannot be found.
Then we have to thin them out.
So we have to hunt them down.
