We Can Learn a Lot from Celebrity -Nudes

Want More Hits on Your Content? Take Your Clothes Off!

Gary Picariello
A recent article I read concerned with the impact of "celebrity nudes" made me quickly realize that taking a similar stance on Associated Content would probably increase the number of hits on my content ten-fold -- with 10 being the operative number here, because that's about the number of folks who read my stuff anyway!

But think about it -- how often do we click on an article not so much because of the content per se -- but because we were tantalized (or maybe I should say "titilized") by a photo reportedly showing Britney Spears without her panties or worse (although I can't think of anything worse than that). So, by using some simple mathematical and business principals that I've culled by tracking the stars, we can all be on our way to more AC Bonus bucks than you can shake a stick at!

1) Sex sells. No surprises here. Sex has increased viewer-ship on everything from the pyramids of ancient Egypt (if you ever get there ask to see the graffiti in the Valley of the Kings) to the nether-regions of Paris Hilton. So it stands to reason that Associated Content can benefit from sex as well! Stick some reference to SEX in the title to your article and chances are you'll get an extra click. In fact, I discovered a recent article online dealing with "the most viewed articles on DIGG" which revealed that many of the articles on DIGG had titles that related to sex in some way whether the article actually talked about doing the deed or not. Which just goes to show you: lots of people would rather read about sex than read about the number of casualties in Iraq any day.

2) Photos of famous individuals in the raw pique our curiosity. Come on, you know it's true -- in the same way we get all worked up over a photo of Christine Aguilera getting out of a car, just think of how many more views your content will get if you boast of having un-retouched photos of last year's Associated Content "Writer of the Year" walking around in the nude using a weed-eater? While you're mulling that over, excuse me while I reposition my webcam!

Why the heck didn't I think of this before? Who needs thought-provoking content when we what we really need is thought-provoking CONtroversy?

Still have your doubts? Not too long ago, PUMA Shoe Company got their shirts all ruffled when a supposedly "fake ad" promoting PUMA shoes started circulating over the internet. In case you didn't see it, the ad showed a young woman kneeling in front of some anonymous male, the woman's face cropped out of the photo. The fact that it seemed like some white gooey substance had dribbled onto her thigh completely underscored the fact that both man and woman were wearing PUMA's and the PUMA logo was in the lower right hand corner of the ad. (Why not look at the photo instead of me just talking about it). You'll notice I blurred the PUMA logo, cuz I don't want to get in trouble!

Anyway, PUMA may have vehemently denied approving and running this ad, but the company sure didn't mind all the attention and column space that particular advert generated for PUMA! Sure, the ad got yanked after a few weeks, but you can't buy that kind of publicity! Makes me start wondering about all the different ways I can place an AC sticker in a photograph!

Whoever said, "any publicity is good publicity" or "bad publicity is better than no publicity at all" certainly knew what they were taking about!

Now if can just figure out how to convince my wife to snap a picture of me getting out of my Toyota with my fly open, then maybe I'll start making some real money here!

  • Sex sells just about anything.
  • Mention the word "sex" and watch your article views increase.
  • A nude picture of Paris Hilton may not increase your AC rating.
PUMA may have vehemently denied approving and running the infamous "oral sex" sports shoe ad, but the company sure didn't mind all the attention and column space that particular advert generated for the company!

All I can say about a photo of you with your fly down is that it's a good thing you know how to blur.

No doubt about it, sex sells. Even if (at least in the U.S.), for the most part, selling sex is illegal. :-D

Sad but true, and the Puma picture was disgusting, but good idea on your part to mention PUMA and sex in the same article. I bet you start getting hits like crazy.

Ha! I don't know that I'll ever be that desperate for page views Gary. LOL. One of the short stories that I published on AC did however get linked once to a porn site, which I'm sure helped my page views significantly. Perhaps I shouldn't have insisted that AC correct the situation; who knows - my clout level might actually be a "7" by now!!!
