We the People Will Fix the Economy

The Debt Clock is Ticking

Michele Starkey

Are you watching the clock? The US Debt clock is ticking and you can see it here.

One of my girlfriends posted a link on her Facebook page about the Liquid Church in New Jersey that is offering a Reverse offering. Instead of passing the collection plate, the church is returning money to the congregation. Every parishioner is handed an envelope full of cold, hard cash. Tim Lucas, lead pastor of the Liquid Church, puts it this way,

"Washington is broke, people are broke… Every dollar in our economy is printed with the words 'In God We Trust' ... but we want to challenge people with the idea that 'God Trusts Them."

You can read the full article as it appeared in the Charisma News here.

The Pastor instructs the ushers to start passing the plate but parishioners are instructed to take an envelope from the offering plate. The plate contains roughly $30,000. Pastor Lucas tells the people to repeat after him, "God trusts me." And he tells the people to creatively invest the money back into the economy.

In Mathew 25:14, there is a parable about a master leaving on a long journey who entrusts some of his wealth to his servants. One servant invested the money wisely and quadrupled the money. Another servant worked hard to earn twice the amount that he was entrusted with. It is the last servant who feared losing the money and buried it in a field. The master was outraged that the last servant held tightly to his money and said, "why didn't you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it."

Who do you trust? The government? They are not doing so well with our money - just take a look at the debt clock. They are burying and borrowing the bucks faster than we can even imagine.

There are some skeptics reading this that will not comprehend this mentality.

'In God we Trust.'

If that $30,000 that the reverse offering by Liquid Church is invested wisely into the local economy, the economy will naturally begin to turn around. When the economy turns around - well, the possibilities are endless.

One woman decided to use the funds to bake cakes. She sold the cakes at a fundraiser that tripled the money. She donated it to a homeless shelter. Market Street Mission was able to help other families that were devastated by the floods recently. None of the families had flood insurance. Imagine the blessing to these families. Helping to rebuild lives in their community.

In God we Trust. It's printed on every single dollar bill. Are you spending your dollars wisely? Or are you relying on your Government?

The Debt Clock is ticking.
