WE Tech Para Ordinance P14 CO2 Blowback

Airsoft Review

Brian Bird
Design

This pistol is all metal. The frame, slide, hammer, trigger, barrel, and most internal parts are metal. This gives the pistol a realistic feel when holding it. The matte finish on the slide and frame is very nice and solid. I have not dropped it, nor do I plan to, but if I did, I know there would be more of a dent in the floor than problems with the gun. The grip is made of a low quality plastic, however. It feels as if you are holding a toy. They probably can be replaced, but the P14 DOES NOT take regular 1911 grips. They have a different curve, so the real P14 grips may work. The orange tip is not removable, unless you take a pair of pliers to it, and even then, it may not come off, however, it is threaded for a silencer. The CO2 magazine extends past the end of the frame, but not by much.

Pros:

1. All metal

2. Realistic weight

3. Nice finish

4. Sturdy

5. Threaded tip

Cons:

1. Plastic grip

2. Non removable orange tip

3. Longer CO2 magazine

External Items

First, I will mention that externally, everything most 1911's have, this pistol has, such as the safeties. A real 1911 has three safeties; ambidextrous thumb safety, the back strap pressure safety, and the half cock. The first two function to prevent the trigger from being pulled, just like the real 1911. The Half cock, on a real 1911, was intended to catch the hammer in the event it slipped past the sear to prevent the weapon from firing. On this airsoft version, the half cock does hold the hammer in place, but it also prevents the internal hammer from releasing the gas and firing the pistol. This pistol has a very tactical looking trigger, with the three holes. This is just appealing to the eye. The large beavertail/spur under the trigger prevents slide bite. The takedown pin functions exactly the same as a real 1911, and is very easy to takedown in the field. The sights on this pistol are amazing. They are easily adjustable and you can change them out for different styles or for night sights. The slide release is slightly further forward than I expected; you can not easily release the slide with your thumb and you must reposition your hand or use your left hand to release the slide. The magazine release is well placed, right where you'd expect it. This is considered a large frame gun, so if you have small hands, this may not be a good gun for you. The ambidextrous safety works nice; however, the right side's safety feels slightly flimsy. It works, but I wouldn't be surprised if the right side of the ambidextrous safety is the first thing on this gun to malfunction. This is not a huge deal because I am right handed and use the safety on the left side of the pistol to engage and disengage the safety.

Pros:

1. Same external functions as a real 1911, safeties.

2. Tactical trigger

3. Beavertail prevents slide bite

4. Easy & realistic takedown

5. Best sights I've seen on a pistol, real or airsoft.

Cons:

1. Slide release is hard to reach

2. Large frame (not a negative unless you have small hands)

3. Flimsy-feeling lefty safety

Internal Items/Magazine

The original 1911 by John Browning was designed as a single action, single stack semi auto. Para Ordinance makes the P14 which was based on the original 1911, with some modifications. The P14 is a double stack model of the 1911, meaning it is slightly wider in the grip to allow for a double stack magazine. The P14 is also single action. The WE P14 is a very close representation of the Para Ordinance P14. The WE P14 is a single action double stack semi auto. If the hammer is not in the full cocked position, the gun will not fire, even if a round is chambered and there is gas in the magazine. The magazine on the WE P14 holds 25 bbs, plus 1 in the chamber. The 12 gram CO2 canister is housed in the magazine and lasts more than 50 shots. The Hop Up adjuster is located just behind the barrel; therefore, the slide must be removed to adjust the hop up. The magazine butt that covers the CO2 screw is made of plastic and if it is dropped, will most likely break into a million pieces. This is probably the weakest and largest con of the whole gun; however, you can buy this exact pistol with a green gas magazine without the flimsy magazine butt, meaning it will have the internal strength to use CO2, but use green gas. If you take care of the magazine and are not retarded (like ejecting the magazine and letting it drop on the floor) the magazine should last as long as the gun.

Pros:

1. Functions just like the Para P14

2. 25 round magazine

3. Long lasting CO2

Cons:

1. Internal Hop Up adjuster

2. Flimsy-feeling magazine butt

Accuracy

This is a very accurate airsoft pistol. I could easily hit a garbage can lid from 75 feet. It is consistently accurate at that distance. After that, it gets a larger spread. Overall, it is a very very good sidearm and can be used as a primary in smaller matches. I personally use it in CQB as my M4 has a sniper scope on it and moving around with this is a lot easier.

Final Notes

This is a very nice pistol. If you are torn between this gun and any other pistol, I can easily say you will be happier with this one. It's built like a tank and it takes easy to find CO2. In all actuality, this can probably be used as a primary weapon in night games/CQB. The fact that you can fire a gas pistol faster than almost any AEG (semi-auto) makes a gas pistol in CQB very practical, as well as the fairly large magazine capacity.

This pistol was purchased at www.evike.com, our event sponsor. Evike has the best prices, by far, as well as the largest selection of guns, ammo, gear, accessories and parts. If you need something, I suggest going to Evike.com first.

And remember, Safety First.
