Of your wide smile gleaming,
Of your words (broad and promising),
And of the children at your side--
Daughters of tomorrow.
We listened to you, remembering
Past days when ropes, bullets, garbage trucks
Crushed us and we were left voiceless.
Thank you; you have not left us hanging,
And you have not buried us.
We watch you proud, but realize too
That we chose our own future
That we shaped a present (whatever will be written of it in history books)
That we conquered the past,
By casting our singular votes.
