Quincy Jones made a big announcement. He says that peace promoting 1980s song "We Are the World" will be re-recorded to benefit Haiti. Jones suggest that three times as many celebrities will participate this time as last time.

The questions now are who will those celebrities be and when will the single be released? Another question is whether or not a song like this will appeal to today's audiences and if they would buy the recording anyway just to help Haiti.

Quincy Jones points out that this recording of "We Are the World" will mark the 25th anniversary of the original recording. He said, "That's not an accident, man. That's God."

God created an earthquake in Haiti so that celebrities could get together and sing "We Are the World" on its 25th anniversary? That may be doubtful, but it's still a helpful project.

Singer included are rumored to be Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson, Will Smith, Sheryl Crow, Madonna, Jason Mraz, Mya, Justin Bieber and Beyonce. Just don't expect to see Taylor Swift. She's going to start her tour instead.

"We Are the World" was originally recorded in 1985 by a group of celebrities called USA for Africa. Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie wrote the song, and celebrities who took part in the recording included Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Cyndi Lauper, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and most of the Jackson family. All together 45 celebrities participated. Musician Prince was supposed to be part of the song and even had a duet part with Michael Jackson, but he chose not to attend at the last minute.

The single raised money for the famine in Ethiopia in the 1980s. About $10 million was raised all together through record sales and private donation.

Live Aid, a 1985 concert, featured a live performance of the song which involved 100 celebrities including Lionel Ritchie.

Spoofs of the 1985 charity single included a very funny Saturday Night Live sketch in which celebrities sing "Set the Chickens Free" and a parody by Weird Al Yankovic called "We Are the Worms".
