"We Are the World" Will Be Performed Again for Haitian Earthquake Relief

ET Cameron
The current suffering in Haiti reminds me of how lucky I have never been as I have never been the victim of such an awful tragedy. Like many, I cannot imagine the pain of losing family members. I don't worry about food and have never gone long without eating, unless voluntarily. I have never had to worry about a cut festering to the point where amputation of any limbs might be necessary. I don't have to worry about medical care for my children and even if such a tragedy were to occur in my city, we have such a large infrastructure of health care that worry about treatment would be the only anxious thought in my mind instead of where can I go to get help.

Fortunately, the world is full of so many kind and compassionate people who see beyond politics, ethnic background, or race. It is wonderful to see the out pouring of support for Haiti and to see how much is being raised to help with the Haitian earthquake relief. I am especially excited to see so many celebrities and athletes using their notoriety to benefit Haitian earthquake relief.

Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones are also joining in to help raise funds for Haitian earthquake relief. It has been announced that they are bringing their 1985 hit "We Are The World" to a new generation, this time to raise money for Haitian earthquake victims. Lionel Richie confirmed that he was going to re-issue the song and do a new performance on the Tom Joyner Morning Show .

The recording of "We Are The World" will be the using the original lyrics, written by Richie and Michael Jackson, but will be performed by a new generation of artists. Similar to 1985, the recording will take place following the Grammy Awards so that all the artist will be available and together to raise money for Haitian earthquake relief. John Legend, Usher, and Natalie Cole are said to be some of the performers. It has also been rumored that Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean, and Fergie may participate.
