Wear Your New Spring Wardrobe Now with These Tips

Paula Andra
I remember growing up in Northern California and living all over California and it was always the same. The new spring wardrobe would be in the stores while we were still freezing our butts off. I'd get cold just looking at the racks of warm weather clothing. That would go on for about two months, before we could wear the new clothing.

Since the weather, in Florida, can fluctuate from freezing one day to warm the next, it's not useful to put one season's wardrobe away to make room for the next. All seasons need to be available, in our closets, if we do actually have seasonally differentiated clothing in our closets. Quite a few people don't vary their wardrobes
between the seasons. They just add a hoodie or replace their sandals with shoes, and otherwise wear tees and capris or jeans.

Because of the blended seasons here, a lot of us mix the wardrobe seasons all the time. The same is true for me since I often travel from 80 degree Florida to 50 degree California or to 30 degree Belgium or Alaska. I've learned to mix the seasons in order to survive the differentials.

The nice thing about Spring clothing is that there's usually items that can span the seasons because they accommodate for weather that's cooler than summer temperatures but warmer than winter's coldness, and the colors tend to be between the darker winter pallet and the lighter shades of summer.

I grew up on a farm where a lot of our clothing was ordered from a catalog. In those catalogs they usually offered several clothing collections which were called "weekender wardrobes". Where a mini wardrobe was offered at one price and they all coordinated with each other to be interchangeable. they usually included a pair of pants, a sweater or jacket, a skirt and a couple tops. I decided to go along with that theme and selected items from Dillard's, Target and JCPenneys that could be coordinated with each other as a Spring wardrobe. Which could be worn now and into early Summer.

This collection includes five tops, two skirts, three pair of pants, two dresses, one sweater and two pairs of shoes.

Tops:

Dillard's' TanJay crew neck, cotton, rib knit top has 3/4 sleeves and braided trim around the neck. It comes in dark cream and coral, in sizes s-xl and costs $24.00. This would look nice with either of the listed skirts and the peep toe wedges.

Their Investments boat neck knit top also has 3/4 sleeves, in rayon/spandex for $20.00. It comes in colors, dark strawberry, intense red, black, ecru, lime and whiteness, with sizes s-xl. This would go well with either skirt or any of the pants that are listed and either the flats or wedges depending upon your mood.

Target's Merona® women's square neck dot or floral top is available in gray dot, green dot, black floral and red/pink floral, for $14.99. It's available in sizes xs-xxl and is 95% cotton and 5% spandex. This top has 3/4 sleeves with elastic cuffs. It's machine washable and can be put in the drier. This would go well with either skirt
or any the listed pants with your choice of flats or wedges.

Their Merona® women's Fit Solutions twist bodice top comes in a teal/black print and ebony and costs $16.99. It's available in sizes xs-xxl and is 95% polyester and 5% spandex with a lining in 78% nylon and 22% spandex. The garment is machine washable in cold water and can be dried on low. It has a square neckline with elbow sleeves which have finished cuffs. It also has a built in Slimming Layer. This can also be worn with either the skirts or any of the pants that are listed with your choice of shoes.

JCPenneys' St. John's Bay® lace trim tee is priced at $22.00. It has a round neck with lace on the front bodice and 3/4 sleeves. It's washable cotton and comes in Misses s-xl and Plus 1x-3x. It's available in black, yellow, pink, green, blue, violet and white. This would look nice with either of Target's pants with either choice of shoes.

Skirts:

Dillard's' Alex Marie "Laura" skirt is a below the knee pencil skirt that comes in a beige two-way stretch fabric of polyester/viscose/elastane. It's available in sizes 4-16 and costs $59.00.

Target's Merona® Collection women's Sophia twill skirt is available in salmon, yellow and ebony for $24.99 in sizes 2-16. The hem is above the knee and the fabric is 65% cotton and 35% rayon twill with a 100% polyester lining. The skirt has a zip and hook back closure, side pockets and a back slit. It's machine washable in cold water.

Pants:

Dillard's Investments PARK AVE Fit, stretch pants have a contour waistband with a double hook-and-eye closure that's at the waistline. The pants are cut straight in the lower hips, seat and back thighs. They're made of machine washable polyester/rayon/spandex. They cost $30.00 and come in black, dark taupe, navy and white and are available in sizes 6-18 short, 4-18 regular and 10-16 tall.

Target's Mossimo® Black's women's bootcut, stretch chambray pants come in indigo for $24.99 and are
available in sizes 2-18 regular. They are 60% cotton, 38% polyester and 2% spandex. The pants have a sateen weave with a zip and hook front closure, front pockets and button back pockets. They're machine washable in cold water and need to be line dried

Their Mossimo® Black's women's Premium Herringbone denim trousers come in a dark wash for $29.99 in sizes 2-18. This item runs small. It has a flare leg in a regular length. The fabric is 71% cotton, 28% polyester and 1% spandex for stretch. It's machine washable in cold water and can be dried on low. This garment has a zip and button front closure with front slant pockets and back welt pockets.

Dresses:

The dresses are only available at Target. Their Merona® women's Zebra Print shirt dress is $24.99 and comes in sizes xs-xxl. The fabric is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. It's washable in cold water and can be dried on low. The garment has an above knee hem with a collared neckline and 3/4 sleeves with buttoned cuffs. It also has a
front tie and a buttoned front.

Their Merona® women's Faux Wrap dress comes in berry, deep love red, sea echo teal, berry print, deep navy and a floral print for $24.99. It's available in sizes xs-xxl. The fabric is cold water, machine washable 95% polyester and 5% spandex. It has an above knee hem with a v-neckline and short sleeves with finished cuffs.
The dress has a front tie and is a pullover.

Sweater:

Target has the only sweater in this collection. There are several print cardigans available. But for this collection I chose solid colors instead because several of the tops and both dresses come in prints.

Their Mossimo® Black women's 3/4 sleeve cardigan comes in ebony, grey, aqua, polar bear white, violet and red. It costs $19.99 and is available in sizes xs-xxl. This sweater is 100% rayon and is machine washable in cold water. It has a V-neckline with front buttons. Both cuffs and hem are ribbed. While it's still cold you can just top
any of these items with one of these attractive sweaters.

Shoes:

The shoes are available at Target. The first pair is their Merona® Marilee leather Comfort Flat shoes in amethyst, gold and black for $24.99 in sizes 5.5M-11M. The shoe is a slip-on with a textured, rounded toe, a contoured footbed, cushioned insole and a flexible out-sole.

Their next shoe is their Merona® Maribel peep toe wedge shoes which are available in lavender, tan and pale blue for $26.99. The shoe has a decorative, perforated design with peep toes on a 2.75" stacked wedge. It's a faux leather slip-on that comes in sizes 5.5M-11M.

I chose items that could be interchangeable and functional for both career and casual situations and could be worn now with perhaps a coat while it's still on the cold side. Then as the weather warms up just peel off the coat and perhaps the sweater, also.
