Weather Downright Dirty in the South: Tornado Damages Georgia Dome During Game

TA James
Well the weather seems to be doing her own thing at the moment. Although we've suffered snow, the onslaught of rain, and timid warm weather, mother nature seems to be far from over in testing her extremes. The roar of wind, hail, and rain that showered down on the metro Atlanta area has ended with the Georgia Dome's roof collapsing in an area with a gaping hole as well scaring everyone within to the point of stopping the Alabama vs. Mississippi State basketball game. It seems the weather is showing no mercy as the power outage in the metro area has stopped quite a deal of businesses as well as damaging surrounding businesses. It's been terrible so far with roofs being pulled off buildings and the World Congress Center has received damage. The Suntrust Bank building windows have been shattered by the high winds and hail due to this tornado hitting downtown Atlanta. I had a chance to speak with a friend of mine, Malcolm about what is occurring and what has happened in the Georgia Dome.

'Are you ok?'

"Yea just a bit shaken. The roof is coming down there's a hole up there, it sounded like a bang, scared me to death."

'Is there any other damage?'

He answers in a bit of a shaky voice "The score board is out and the game has stopped right now."

'Are people attempting to leave?'

"Not at the moment.." he pauses for a moment as friends in the background and not to mention the commotion of the others around him.
"They're letting people in, that's what some folks are saying'"

'Was anyone injured?'
"No everyone seems to be ok, just shaken, everyone keeps staring up at the steel beam dangling and swaying in the air."

The impact of the roofs partial collapse finally deciding to sink into the occupants of the dome even Malcolm has ended any information on what is occurring to regain his composure. People have been allowed into the foyer of the Georgia Dome so far which is providing protection against the storm and a way to get out of any additional dangers.

It has been some time since a storm has just passed through Atlanta wreaking as much havoc, as it has done this evening. Everyone within the area is in desperate need of staying inside, the rain in my area came earlier and winds are picking up outside of the window. So far Clayton County, on the outskirts of the metro area, has not been harmed by the threat of tornadoes and extreme weather, yet preparations have been made, none the less. Let's just thank God thus far according to Channel 46 news and my friend Malcolm, that no one has been hurt.
