Warm, bright days are ideal for ceremonies, receptions and especially the photo session. Maybe all of these can be held outdoors during a mild winter region of the country, but in a lot of areas, winter and much of fall maybe just be too extreme for outdoor comfort. Another typical feature of winter is regular precipitation. Needless to say, rain, snow, and all weather in general must be take into consideration during wedding preparation.
If choosing to hold an outdoor wedding/reception anytime of the year, a secondary plan due to uncooperative weather is highly beneficial. Tents which fully enclose the inside are useful not only in the event of weather, but to use as shelter from the sun or just to offer indoor comfort without being completely indoors. However, if the idea of a tent does not appeal to you and simplicity and ease are what your aiming for, a home wedding may be the direction to go. Weddings at home are always a little less stress full because of the security knowing you without a doubt can retreat inside if needed.
Never the less, if an outdoor wedding in the winter is what your heart desires, you'll need to make it known to those attending. Regardless, the attire obviously won't be the same as an outdoor wedding during the summer would be. So depending on the climate and weather on the actual wedding day, everyone attending should dress how they fill most comfortable, but don't be afraid to suggest a coat be brought. They may not know whether or not people will be outside or inside most often. Also, more suitable footwear might need to be considered to ease and possibly warm up walking on grass.
Photo sessions during a winter wedding are yet another major issue. It's simply wedding tradition to have wedding photos (especially bride and groom "newlywed" photos) outdoors. Of course if this can be pulled off to the bride and grooms satisfaction, go for it. But it's always a good idea to have that alternate indoor location for photos. Often the photographer will determine if outdoor photography is a good idea or not due to lighting of other factors. They could also provide assistance in suggesting the alternate photo taking location.
A wedding clearly requires many preparations and time consuming planning, and an outdoor winter wedding can possibly take a little extra. Take some of these important and useful ideas and suggestions to mind when planning for a wedding scheduled for any time of the year. You'll be that much closer to having a smooth and wonderful wedding.
