"The Semantic Web is an evolution of the World Wide Web in which information is machine processable (rather than being only human oriented), thus permitting browsers to find, share and combine information more easily." --Wikipedia
Crisp and easily absorbed definition by Wikipedia, does justice to the...
Still-evolving extension of WWW (World Wide Web)
Claim of dominating the web world by its sprawling 'intellect' arms
Construction that seems more like Artificial Intelligence
Approach to systematize the world information, without any sweat
Concept of being most logical of all
That is: ... yet idea form of Web 3.0, which is also known as Semantic Web because of its enabling powers of disseminating concepts and integration of completely specific information.
To simplify things: semantic web makes human accessible data into machine processable or computer accessible data. As for example: till now computer cannot function without human resource: as in, a human has to finally process information provided randomly by the computer. But semantic web takes care of separating the clutter from the required information, by its own.
Web 3.0 is Tim Berners-Lee's vision to provide today's instant web generation with easy and quick exchange of information. Such a revolution can be achieved not in isolation but with sincere assistance of few descriptive languages like: RDF or OWL. These languages work far more than merely tallying the keywords. They process commands via concept/category breakage.
While RDF is Resource Description Framework which mainly focuses on determining the resource of a particular topic; OWL is Web Ontology Language used to describe reason out ontologies. Both of them will help in putting much required annotations on the current 'cluttered' HTML (Hyper Text Mark up Language) page to make it computer accessible friendly.
To state otherwise, the "mark-up" language following every Web sheet/page would be cross-referenced into infinite other databases and in the process will be respecting the precious time of the browser.
It's the entire race towards revolutionizing web further and further to make human life easier, convenient and fuss-free. Few decades later, current time will be remembered as root- start age for that comfortable-routine-lush ridden life (in the context of computers at least!!!).
Just as Web seemed an alien concept before 90s, but is our way of life today...so will semantic web requires our patience and assistance for its successful arrival and later survival!!!
