Web Browsing Wars: Internet Explorer Vs. Firefox

Hishad Raque
My cousin came over yesterday and I got on the computer. I turned on Firefox and then my cousin who loves Microsoft says "Why are you using Firefox, Internet Explorer 7 is so much better." Then we have a big fight over what browser is better (I know, what nerds right?). I my self like Firefox more that IE - Internet Explorer for short. Maybe it's just my opinion, but I think it's the easier way to do everything. Anyways, later that night I stumble upon a website called Firefox Myths. This website I strongly didn't like because I'm a Firefox fan, but I kept on reading. This website has a specific way they organize their data. It is in the way of a FAQ, but different. It first has Myth and then reality. I keep on reading, and I say to my self "Wait a minute, this stuff is for real."

IE7 is a very widely used browser. All Microsoft Windows® computers come with IE installed and ready to use. It is an internet browser that was first introduced at University of Urbana-Champagne, Illinois. This browser has many advantages. Its memory usage is very low which makes your computer and internet experience much better and much more enjoying. Its file size is very small so it is better for you computer's small hard drive. IE also has many disadvantages. They like copying Firefox's ideas and use them and make it look bad. Like tabbed browsing and anti-phishing. IE7 is a straight out copy-cat because of the ideas that they have copied. I've also had many problems with IE7, personally.

Firefox 2.0 is a much liked program. It is another very widely used browser around the world. It has over 150 million downloads and such. They are a browser that is based out of the Gecko Engine. It is very smooth and easy to use. You can have tabbed homepages and the browser has an incorporated search function because it is affiliated with Google. You can add more searches, such as: Yahoo!, Amazon, Answers.com, Creative Commons and eBay. This make things much easier. Tabs are a great addition on Firefox and is much easier to use than IE7 tabs. You your middle/scroll button to click on a link to open a new tab with that link. This makes everything so much easier in your surfing experience. Firefox has some disadvantages too. The file size and memory usage is a lot. Memory usage can go up to 130,000 K, which will slow things down a lot. Also this program is an open source browser so it can be molded to fit your best needs if you have the knowledge of program making, but can also cause bugs and glitches.

Both of these browser are very good and are easy to use, but Firefox wins in the browser wars because of the happy users that use it. I personally will use Firefox because it is the easiest to use.
