Coming from someone who used to own WWE Pin.com, a top wrestling-informational website, I know somewhat about what I'm talking about. Sites on the Internet will try to sell you programs to guarantee 10000 hits to your web site by tomorrow- yeah, right! I started WWE Pin.com with an idea, and made it into a web site. No one knew about it, so I did not get any visitors. Then, with the tricks I will give you below, I started generating hundreds, even thousands of visitors a day!
I have a good site, but no one will return. It's been around for a long time, what am I doing wrong?
Are you sure it is good? ALL web site owners think their sites are good, even though they really aren't. Web site design is a hard process, something that takes a long time. Anyone can make a great web site. However, you should have a small grasp on HTML, and Flash. That is all I know, and I seemed to do pretty good. When a visitor visits your web site and they do not return, why is that? Step back and look at your site. Would you revisit it if you were on the other end? Have some friends look at it and tell them what they think, just don't let them know it is yours! Do your site pages offer something no other site does? Does your site have a unique, and "cool" design? What is in the site content that will make your visitors want to return again? WWE Pin.com was a web site where I posted information about the story lines, and shows of the World Wrestling Entertainment. It contained images, articles, contests, and more, but we really weren't much different than 5 leading web sites, but there were a few DRAMATIC differences. Those other web sites offer the same exact news than we did, but would you like to have to navigate throw loads of pop-ups? That's what they have. My site had not one ad, or pop-up. We provided news to the MINUTE, other sites might not have been uploaded for a few hours to a day before it was uploaded. Visitors liked this. They were able to get the needed information they wanted in a matter of minutes. Ads and pop-ups just slow that process down. My site was also very user-friendly, and was very polite to everyone. We wished everyone Happy Holidays when the occasion risen, and listened to what our visitors wanted. If they are willing to talk, you BETTER listen!
A few FREE techniques to get visitors.
Instead of buying that program you saw on the side of a web site in an ad, and spending to get that 10000 hits by tomorrow, just to learn they are fake computer generated hits, why don't you follow the steps below? This way, you will earn the hits and can be proud of each one!
1. Forums-Forums are a great way to get a few quick hits. They have become popular lately in the web community, and are continuing to grow. Forums allow users to post messages on a specialized "board". Now, I am not saying start a forum right now, just look for forums related to the topic of your site, and become regular there. Post a few messages, and then learn how to put your "Signature" into your posts. Usually, you will need yo go to your control panel. Your "Signature" or, siggy is a short message that is applied to the bottom of all your posts or replies. After reading a post, users will see your siggy. You can add pictures, or text in your signature. I would advise you to put a picture with a link to your site. The title of the site should be below the image. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to add a short catchphrase. Something that would reveal the content of your site, and have wit to it.
2.Partnerships-When I first started doing WWE Pin.com, I teamed up with this Freewebs web site. We both went into a deal about special promotional services for both sites. When doing business, you always want to remain on top, so I came up with the plan, and made myself benefit slightly more. Because he collected and sold wrestling collectible cards, I made the deal that he would send me 20 cards for free as I would have placed a contest up on my site. A lucky winner would receive that cards. I placed his site logo in a nice image, and put it on my site. I made special attention to his site on all pages for 3 weeks. He claimed to have received more sales in those three weeks that he usually gets in 3 months! I also received a few more returning visitors. I held the contest, and shipped the cards out to the winner. They were really happy. So, everyone made out good with this partnership. So, basically what I am saying, is that you should find a small web site, and create a beneficial affiliation with them. It does not have to be permanent, just something like I did. That seems to work out, although it is not the best way to get a lot of people.
3.Word Of Mouth-Some say that the best type of advertising is by word of mouth. They are right. Casual, regular people are the best advertisers for you. No one can advertise your product, for free, like they can. If someone likes your web site, and know others who are interested in the same topic, they will be happy to give them your web address. You won't even know it! The "advertiser" would be so happy with your site and content that they would convince their friends to visit your site. They would make the product look so good, and almost "force" their friend to visit it with their compliments. Know why spend hundreds of dollars to have a professional advertiser make a plain ad that cannot talk? I was talking to an old time friend who just purchased a vacuum cleaner. Don't ask me how we got talking about the subject, but we did! So anyways, he was saying that the vacuum cleaner was the best one he ever purchased. He talked about how it cleaned his white carpet whiter than when he bought it! His speech was so convincing, in such a short time, that I had to try it for myself. I went out and bought it, and it works wonders! That's just how the wonderful word of mouth concept works.
4.Google Ads-When you search for results on Google.com you will notice the links on the side of the page. These links have been placed there by the advertiser in hopes that people will click them. For each click, the advertiser pays a set amount. I tried this method out and spent $25.00 on the form of advertising. I generated a steady flow of visitors from it, but it was not something I was looking for. My goal was to get as many visitors as possible by myself, and using Google Words just meant Google was getting the visitors for me. I took this form of advertising off from my list, and continued on.
5.Search Engines-By default, search engines "crawl" the web and index each web site it has to offer. A few days after I set-up my web site I found that Google, Yahoo, Lycos, and many more had my web site indexed into their search results. The only problem was was that if you search for the basic category, it was far into the many many pages. I did not like that. What I did was categorize my "keywords" and meta keywords. This will help search engines place your site based on the information you give it. After I did this, I check the Google Search Engine a week later. I found that my site had been listed on the second page, and I noticed TONS of traffic.
