No, not John McCain.
TV.com recently held an online poll to decide which TV character or personality they would most like to serve as president. Even with cultural icons like Dave Letterman, Spongebob, Clark Kent, and Oprah Winfrey among the choices, the winner was "Lost" character John Locke, who ran away with 58% of the vote.
The choice may seem like an odd one, considering the wide variety of choices, including real-life poeple like Dave, Oprah, and Ellen. Of all the candidates, Locke is the only one that resembles real-life candidate John McCain, and one wonders if the source for some of his support may come from Republicans. Obviously, a lot of Lost fans participated in voting. Finishing second was Tina Fey's character of Sarah Palin from Saturday Night Live. Considering their popularity, one wonders how McCain and Palin didn't win the real election.
Democratic stalwarts and media darlings on the candidate list included John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Ellen Degeneres, but could each manage no better than 1% of the vote total. They were outpolled by Stewie from "Family Guy" and Dwight Schrute from "The Office."
The final results were as follows:
1. John Locke from "Lost" (Terry O'Quinn) 58% - 417,565 votes
2. Sarah Palin from "SNL" (Tina Fey) 20% - 148,355 votes
3. David Letterman from the Late Show 8% - 60,954 votes
4. Spongebob from "The Spongebob Squarepants Show" 4% - 25658 votes
5. Clark Kent from "Smallville" (Tom Welling) 3% - 19,604 votes
6. Dwight Schrute from The Office (Rainn Wilson) 2% - 16,148 votes
7. Stewie from "Family Guy" 1% - 10,155 votes
8. Don Draper from "Mad Men" (John Hamm) 1% - 7,262 votes
9. John Stewart from "The Daily Show" 1% - 5,264 votes
10. Stephen Colbert from "The Colbert Report" 1% - 4,779 votes
11. Ellen from "The Ellen Degeneres Show" 0.4% - 2,978 votes
12. Hiro from "Heroes" (Masi Oka) 0.3% - 2,533 votes
13. Miranda Bailey on "Grey's Anatomy" (Chandra Wilson) 0.3% - 2,004 votes
14. Wilhelmina Slater from "Ugly Betty" (Vanessa Williams) 0.1% - 1,021 votes
15. Oprah Winfrey from "The Oprah Winfrey Show" 0.1% - 796 votes
16. Tim Gunn from "Project Runway" 0.1% - 503 votes
