Webbie's Savage Life 2 Gets Lost in Overcrowded Hip-Hop Market

The Reviewer
Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based rapper Webbie is back on the scene with his sophomore album. On his first full-length album, Savage Life, Webbie attracted hip-hop heads to his southern drawl. With songs such as Give Me That, Webbie was able to catapult to the mainstream. Now Webbie is back with his sophomore disc, Savage Life 2. Will Webbie be able to capitalize on his success to create a solid hip-hop album?

The first single off of Savage Life 2 is Independent featuring Lil' Boosie and Lil' Phat of 3 Deep. The Mouse produced song is definitely a club anthem. The track is definitely catchy and very popular out in the clubs. The song follows the fairly simple formula used by artists like Foxx, Lil' Boosie and Webbie in the past.

I Miss You is one of the mellower tracks on the album. The song features Houston, Texas based R&B singer Letoya Luckett. The song definitely has incredible commercial appeal as the song will appeal to a broad swatch of listeners.

A Miracle features southern rappers Rick Ross and The Birdman. The track is another song perfect for the club featuring blistering synths. The song is fairly catchy and the featured rappers deliver solid verses.

I Know features Grand Hustle rapper Young Dro. The song is fairly catchy and features an interesting syncopated drum pattern throughout the track. The song is not the best song on the album however it is solid.

Fly As An Eagle features the late Pimp C of UGK fame and Foxx. The song is a bouncy southern hip hop track yet nothing all that mind blowing.

Doe Doe features Bun-B of UGK fame and Lil' Phat of 3 Deep. The track is littered with the sounds of gunshots. The song is definitely one of the harder records on the album however it just does not seem to work. Bun-B drops a solid verse however the rest of the song just does not cut it.

On Thuggin' Webbie is joined by Lil' Boosie and Lil' Phat and Shell of 3 Deep. The song features a beat which is definitely hard for the listener to get into. It features unique sound effects throughout the track which distract from the song.

Six 12's is also produced by Mouse. The song is fairly catchy however the repetitive beat just fails to keep the listener interested through the whole track.

First Night features producer Mouse. The track is nothing special and fails to close off the album on a high note.

Savage Life 2 is just another album by a southern rapper. Webbie just fails to stand out from the already crowded hip-hop market. Savage Life 2 gets 6.5 out of 10 stars. If you are a fan of Webbie, make sure you pick up Savage Life 2 when it is available in stores on February 26.
