Webkinz: A Review

Alicia Bodine

There are a few games on Webkinz that you should encourage your child to play at home to build on the skills they learned at school. The best game on Webkinz for reinforcing skills is Quizzy's Question Corner.

Quizzy's Question Corner is set up by age which makes it easy for your child to work on the skills that are appropriate for them. The ages are set up as 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13 +, and everyone. Once your child chooses his or her age, category selection is next. There are six categories. They include The Arts, Social Studies, Health, Math, Language, and Science. Webkinz will ask your child if he or she is ready for the first question. The question will appear and within twenty seconds, the child chooses from the four possible answers. The next question will not appear until the child clicks next. Your child will never feel rushed and can move at his or her own pace through the quiz. There are fifty questions on each quiz.

Quizzy's Question Corner offers many different quizzes within each category, so students won't get the same quiz every time they play. The fun part about the quiz is that students earn points to spend on their Webkinz's. That is the motivation factor plus they are learning without even realizing it. Once your child masters the quizzes for age, you can encourage him or her to move on to the next age group.

Math. Kids can practice math skills with Quizzy's Question Corner of course, but they are also practicing math throughout the whole site. Every time they earn points, the points are added to their totals. They must then buy food for their Webkinz. In order to do that they must know if they have enough money. The prices are listed at the W-shop so students can see if they have enough money and they can learn to shop wisely. They will also learn how to save up money to buy a luxury item for their webkinz room. They can even learn how to send packages and pay for postage at the Kinz Post.

Memory. Students can work on their memory skills by completing a job at the Employment Office. There are games at the employment office such as, remembering a row of paint and repeating it. Then your student can go over to the arcade and play "Where's Wacky?". Where's Wacky starts small with only 4 cards to match. The level continues to increase until you have to remember a whole page of cards.

Webkinz is a great site for kids to learn and have fun at the same time. I encourage my daughter to spend some time on Quizzy's Corner each day.
