Website Offers Real Live Celebrity Phone Calls to You

Will Wright
Remember the old saying - don't call us; we'll call you? That's exactly what the website Hollywood is Calling offers. For a fee you can have a celebrity call you or any person you choose.

Now before you envision sitting down for a nice long chat with Brad Pitt, let's define the word celebrity as meaning, a person whose name you'll probably recognize as having acted in television show or movie you have seen or at least heard of. Okay, now that seems a bit more honest. Once you get over the fact that Angelina Jolie is not going to be calling you from Thailand, the services offered by Hollywood is Calling might make a fun gift or a unique surprise for that special someone.

Basically how the service works is you place your order from a list of options regarding the type of call you wish to receive. Then within a seven-day window the celebrity will call you or the person of your choice. Some of the options you can choose from are the following:

Order a Live Call
This option means the celebrity will call you or a person you choose and leave a pre-scripted message. The call is live, but the message is more like a form letter with your name inserted. Or if you want the message to be more personal, you can write the message yourself that you want the celebrity to say for an additional fee.

The celebrity will be on the phone for 30 seconds or less with either of these options.

The website offers a large range of standard messages, from a "Merry Christmas" message to a "Tell My Wife I Love Her" message. Some interesting options are having the celebrity call to "Thank You for the Job Interview", call to wish someone a happy Father's Day or to offer "Congratulations on Your Graduation." You can even have a celebrity call to propose to your loved one.

Prices vary from $19.95 for a standard call to $29.95 for a customized call.

Order a Video Card
With this option you'll receive a pre-recorded video message from a celebrity emailed to the person of your choice. These range in price from three to six dollars.

Telephone "Personal Appearance"
At $300 this option is a bit more pricey, but this is a 20-minute live phone call that you can schedule at the day and time of your choosing (with the Order a Live Call option you are given a window of time during which the celebrity will call.) These calls must be ordered at least two weeks in advance.

Celebrity Choices
All right, just to set the record straight, we're not talking A-list talent here. No Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise or even Tom Arnold. And we're not really talking B-list here either. But then what do you expect for 20 bucks? Here's a partial list of celebrities.

Richard Hatch - Apollo from the original Battlestar Galactica

Russell Johnson - The Professor from Gilligan's Island (yes he's still alive).

Larry Holmes - former heavyweight champ.

Lou Ferrigno - from TV's The Incredible Hulk (and he threw a bear into outer space in a Hercules movie.)

Greg Evigan - from B.J and the Bear (Bear was the monkey).

Erin Gray - From Buck Rogers (alright guys, if you were a sci-fi nerd in the '70s, you know you had a crush on her.)

Butch Patrick - Eddie Munster himself

Christopher Atkins - the one with the blonde perm in The Blue Lagoon. The other one was Brooke Shields.

Andrea Thompson - She was Dr. Nicole Duncan in "24".

These are just a few of the many celebrities waiting to call you.

Just for the record yet again, this article is not an endorsement or ad, and I have not tried this service.

Some bands and such have phone numbers set up on their Myspace accounts now to where you can call them and leave messages...then they record and play them on their webpage, which is a bit bad since a lot of the calls come from little kids who then go on to say "call me back my number is 555-"and their real number.
