Website Review for Myspace.Com

Eric Jackson
Aesthetic Appeal: 7/10 -The site is attractive, but is busy with far too much going on. The main page has this problem and it continues throughout the site. Registered users will be given a home page where they can change their account and view other features, but you cannot click and drag the feature boxes like facebook. This makes a half static page because most of the features are worthless, sorry myspace news. User pages range from stunning to a nightmare of broken html and formatting problems. I have also experienced an "Unexpected problem" while trying to view a page nearly once a page. That aside your page is as good as you make it with plenty of web support found else where to code the html for you. You find yourself having to look through all the ads and useless filler to find what you are looking for when off of user pages. This site is meant to kill time.

Usability/Functionality: 4/10 - In theory the site works perfectly because everything is mean to be simple for younger users. This said the site is half broken and personally if I didn't use this to keep in contact with a few friends I would never come here. Everything works half the time the picture loader stops for no reason if you don't load one image at a time, I continue to hit "Unexpected problems" at every turn, and the search feature is worthless because it never brings anyone up I was unable to even find myself. The site would be great if it preformed more than 50% of the time. Users who also user other social networking sites will become frustrated by myspace and its inability to adapt with customizations that would make use easer and tools that work.

Content: 8/10 - The content is only as good as the user makes it. That said this is a place for strippers and garage bands to learn html. I refuse 20-40 requests a day from just bands and strippers. A filter to limit/remove this people would be nice, but I instead have to look at each request. Some music pages like for the artist Necro are better than most websites. Myspace offers a bunch of useless features, but then skimps on standard ones like search.

Etc: Facebook has improved on a great deal of the problems myspace.com has. Myspace is just a hulking mass of filler that needs to be thinned out before it can be of any real use.

Overall: 6/10 - People use this to kill time in the office or in between classes so the shortcomings don't bother users because they just want to keep in contact with friends. In this respect myspace meets its goal.
