Website Review : World's Healthiest Foods

The Best Resource for Eating Healthy

Todd B.
The United States is watching it's obesity rate rise, and everyone seems to be looking for an answer. Many fail to sift through the fad diets to find the easy answer to an unhealthy lifestyle. Eating healthy is one of the best things a person can do for their body. As a college student, I've found more than a few issues in my attempts to eat healthy. It's expensive. It's hard. It doesn't tasted good. These are all things that seem synonymous with eating healthy, but one website can prove it wrong. I stumbled upon World's Healthiest Foods months ago. I was skeptical at first, but after using the web site's resources, I've found myself eating tasty, healthier food at a lower cost than I expected. World's Healthiest Foods has many facets, but I will cover the most basic, useful resources that I've found. It's simple: Facts, Numbers, and Recipes. To find the web page, click here.

Facts
What is most useful about World's Healthiest Foods is their list of the World's healthiest foods. This list must pass their 6 step criteria. The food must be nutrient dense, it must be a whole food, and must be familiar. It must also be readily available, affordable, and must, well, taste good. The website lists over 120 foods (as well as a few spices) that it considers for it's list. Each food has it's own page. Each page contains a quick glance at the nutritional facts, the health benefits, as well as a description and history, along with directions on how to store. It also includes safety, a nutritional profile, and a few quick tips as to how to best enjoy the food. This wealth of knowledge is fascinating. It details the health benefits by stating the benefit, along with some scientific findings (with citation).

Numbers
Not only does each food's page offer quick nutritional tips, but the statistics of the nutritional value of the food is exhausted through a link given at the bottom of the food's page. It lists everything found in the food (nutrients, minerals, vitamins, basic values) as well as percentage values to give the reader complete information on what they get from the food.

Recipes
This is where the site also shines. User submitted recipes can help along anyone who would like to eat healthy, but is unsure of how to make it interesting. These recipes allow you to see ways in which people across the nation enjoy their healthy eating, and also help promote the fact that eating healthy is actually the opposite of bland. The flavor and taste that can come from healthy foods is unmatched.

No, I do not work for this website. I'm simply a college student who stumbled upon a web site. This website has helped me find a way to somehow eat healthy, and on the budget of a college student. Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive. It doesn't have to be hard. And it certainly doesn't have to be bland. Eating healthy is the best way to start doing something good for your body.
