Choosing a website template can be a time consuming. There are many designs to choose from. It can be tempting to choose a template that ranks high in popularity. However, if there are a lot of other websites using that same template, your website runs the risk as being too common. Find a template that has a nice layout, an easy navigation menu, user friendly, and simple.
Some templates will allow you to add background music. Unless your website advertises music, it is strongly suggested not to include any background music. It might seem appealing to add this extra to set the mood, but it creates a burden to your visitors. Some people might be at work while browsing your website. Others might find the music a turn off. Plus, there are some people still using dial up connections and will have to wait to view your site while the music loads.
Another feature some templates suggest are pop-ups windows. Most people find these extremely annoying and have pop-up window blockers in place. Your website will be more attractive when advertisements and important messages are embedded into the website. Covering up your website with a window might create frustration to the visitor. They might be confused on what to read or where to go. This will create your website unusable and not user friendly.
Set your identity by using unique tactics such as your favorite colors, logo, language and so forth. Being your own identity will have your visitors feeling like they belong and that they should stay. When you do add your own logo and other unique factors, keep the changes to a minimum. After all you are using a website template to save you time and effort. Try not to change the template so much more than it's original design.
There are a few other things to consider. Such as using text fonts that are easy to read and reasonably sized to your website. The choices of colors are not too bold and bright. If possible try not to have to many flashing or oversize graphics. Like background music, graphics can slow down the loading time of your website.
Using a website template should be fast and easy. Don't overdo the original design and apply good website design practices. After using these suggestions, you will soon have a website that people would want to visit and more time for other things.
