Websites for Blogging: BlogSpot, LiveJournal, Xanga, MySpace and DeadJournal
So You Want to Be a Blogger...which One Do You Choose?
First you need to think about what you want to blog about. Do you want just a journal for your personal thoughts? A place to put online quizzes? Would you like to post your artwork? Or do you want to share your opinion on things with the world?
www.blogspot.com
BlogSpot is a blog that seems to be aimed towards the older crowd. People use it to keep in touch with families across the country (or world), post opinions on world affairs or whatever they're passionate about. It's a great way to start, however. It's easy enough to figure out, and offers you just what you want, a place to blog.
www.livejournal.com
LiveJournal is a great way to keep in contact with friends and join communities of your interest. You can get it for free, or update it for a small cost to get more options, including more user pictures (some people like to go a little crazy with their icons!). You have a 'friends page,' which is a whole page showing you each of the entries that your friends have made, and a plethora of communities to join if your heart so desires. You also have the option to lock your entries so that only your friends can view them.
www.deadjournal.com
DeadJournal isn't as well known, but it is a lot like LiveJournal. It offers many of the same features. It's a great way to keep in contact with your friends if you aren't into doing what's popular.
www.xanga.com
Xanga is a growing blog site. It seems to be aimed at the younger crowd, though anyone can use it. You can search for people in your area (Metro), you can search for groups of people (Community), and you can write about whatever you want. If you have friends who have xangas, you can subscribe to theirs, and have instant links on your xanga to theirs.
www.myspace.com
The ever famous MySpace also has a blogging area. Myspace is huge, and getting more and more popular every day. You can leave comments on your friends my spaces, put up blogs, send messages to your friends straight throught he site, and you can even add a song to play directly on your page. The possibilities on Myspace are huge.

Nice write up. I've never heard of deadjournal, but it sounds cool. I have use both blogger and myspace. But I think of blogger as an actual site/blog and myspace is like a collection of links to other things I'm involved with, with pics and music, and a network of friends.
