The Chinese New Year, is celebrated on the first day of the first moon of the lunar calender. This year it will begin on January 26th 2009, and is, the year of the Ox. This celebrations will carry on for fifteen days. This day, of the 15th, is called the Lantern Festival. There will be a parade of lanterns and a dragon dance. The Chinese New Year is a major holiday for the Chinese, as is, for their neighbors. Those who also celebrate the Chinese New Year are people who have "extensive interactions with the Chinese, such as the Taiwanese, Koreans, Mongolians, Nepalese, Bhutanese, Vietnamese, and formerly the Japanese before 1873. In Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and other countries with significant Chinese population" according to wikipedia.
