Wedding Bouquet Tutorial: DIY Yellow Bridal Bouquet

To create your own yellow bridal bouquet, you will need 8 yellow roses, 4-6 white flowers with yellow centers and/or flowers in the secondary wedding color, several bits of baby's breath and assorted other greenery, a roll of green floral tape, 4 - ¾" wide water tubes, glue, and 1 roll each of yellow and white ribbon. You will also need pruning sheers or scissors, fresh flower nutrient and a vase or something else to hold the bouquet in place while you are adding flowers.

Take 3 of the water tubes and place them together in a loose triangular shape. The 4th should be placed in between the other 3, about 2-3" lower than the others. Secure them together with a few wraps of floral tape. Place the whole thing into the vase. Fill the tubes ¾ full of cool, filtered water and add the flower nutrient.

Snip the rose stems, with an angled cut, leaving about 8" of stem beneath 2 of the flowers and about 6" under the others. The longer stems will go in the center tube. These can be cut down further, but it is better to start with longer stems and cut back than cut too much too early. Place 2 roses in each tube. Put at least one yellow-centered flower/secondary color flower in each tube, between the roses. Add bits of baby's breath and other greenery to each tube to fill out the bouquet. The object is to create a hemisphere shape of relatively evenly spaced flowers.

When the flowers are arranged to you liking, cut 1 yard of each color ribbon into 1' lengths, 6 pieces in all. Tie or tape the centers of these lengths to the bottom of the center water tube. Next, use the floral tape to completely wrap all the water tubes, creating a conical shape for easy holding, with the lengths of ribbon extending from the opening in the end.

Cut 2 - 1 yard lengths of each color ribbon. Glue an inch long segment in the middle of one to the top of one side of the cone. Glue the other yard of that color to the opposite side, then repeat on the empty sides with the remaining color of ribbon. Allow the glue to dry. Then take the ends of one ribbon and wrap them around in a crisscross pattern, similar to the laces of ballerina shoes, tying off or gluing at the end of the cone. Repeat with the remaining 3 pairs of ends. Refrigerate until just before the wedding.
